A very cold start to September. Current estimate is that for the first 9 days of the month the mean temperature will be 2.1C below normal which is very significant indeed.

For the 10th to the 18th the current estimate is for the mean temperature to be 0.9C above average. So a significant change in the weather looks like taking place in the middle of next week in terms of temperature.

Sorry Art.

I am still not with it???? Call me thick.

Do you mean that this means that your annual is 11.3C for the year to date  and that the normal annual average is 16.9C at this point?

It's 10.3C here which is -2.2C at a time of year which can be as hot as any.
Next week's low minimums mean it will probably not change much - it is already looking like a close to average or below month again.
Only August scraped above here this year so far (by 0.1C!)

You never know Art and you're doing good in the annual table.  I'd rather you were nearer the mark than me because I'm not ready to let go of summer yet.

I am wondering how we're comparing with cold Septembers with regard to the first week of the month. Just taken a look at the CET tables. September 1986 must have commenced cold.

The CET for that whole month was 11.3C

Hardly a warm push on the CET so far with this high pressure and with just a couple more days of fine weather left before cooler unsettled conditions set in it looks as thought eh first half of September will be well below average.

I wonder what GW's updated daily forecast bar chart might look like?

I have a gut feeling September will be a month of two halves with a warmer than average second half but I expect that is quite rare to have tow such contrasting halves of the month.
