My initial calculation suggests 24.2C which is only the 7th highest July CET on record. It could end up a little higher.

Pershore and Rothamsted both at 24.9C. Stonyhurst 22.8C

Per a Met Office news release Stonyhurst reached 32.6C on the first which is way above any hourly reading that was reported for that station. That makes my CET estimate for the first 24.85C. We will have to wait for the final Hadley figure at the end of the month to see whether that is broadly correct (the provisional figure was 24.5C). That would make it the second warmest July day on record in terms of mean temperature.

After a hot start to the month the CET looks like being fairly average over the next 2 weeks. Currently I calculate the CET is at 19.97C up to and including today. By the 18th the output suggests it could fall to 17.35C.

Here are the predictions for July. I fear we are going to see some large prediction errors again this month, for a third month in a row. Unless another heatwave comes along towards the end of the month many predictions are I think going to be way too high again.

Given we're likely to be under 18C by tomorrow's update, I'm already starting to think I've over-cooked it at 17.0...

It's only going one way. Forgot to have a go this month but it seemed it wasn't going to be hot for long
