Ahead of the final figures for December and the 2013 competition, I have had a request for a league table showing the cumulative position for the past 5 years since I started running the annual competition. Only 9 people have made predictions every month over that 5 year period (there were only a dozen or so people involved in 2009) but here are the results.

Can you guess who asked me to pull together this summary - yes indeed it was Dougie!

Well done to Dougie for being the most consistent predictor over the past 5 years.

I have attached below also the top few places in the annual competition for 2009 - 2012.

The final December CET from Hadley is 6.34C. For some reason the page on the website with the official mean for December has not updated but the pages for the minimum and maximum have so the mean can be calculated from these (Edit - the Hadley page has now updated and 6.34C is confirmed http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_mean_2013).

Nobody exactly predicted the CET but Martyn was the closest with 6.2C so congratulations to him.

2013 CET annual competition - final results

So we come to the end of another year. December was another month that caught many people out and as a result there are some significant changes in the final CET table for the annual competition. Thanks to everyone who took part during 2013 and good luck for 2014.

No doubting who our winner is this year. Nemi has topped the table since August and finishes comfortably ahead of everyone else. So congratulations to Nemi who as a worthy winner joins the CET hall of fame!

All of the top three in this year’s competition were inside the top 10 for every month of the year and were therefore very consistent with their predictions. Their final positions are therefore a very accurate reflection of their performance.

Weathermac finishes in second place comfortably ahead of The Professional in third.

Gavin P finishes the year in style rising 15 places to finish in his highest position of the year, 4th. That equals his 4th place in 2010.

Alvin Meister also had a barnstorming finish to the year rising 18 places in December to 5th after a 13 place rise in November. He would actually have finished ahead of Gavin P on count back if he had not incurred a late penalty of 0.2C in December.

Stormchaser has been back to his best this year consistently around 5th place in the table for most of the year although not quite as high as his debut year in 2010 when he won the competition. He finishes in 6th this year.

Roonie has also been very consistent sitting generally between 6th and 10th in the table this year and finishing in 7th. A first finish inside the top 10.

Tractor Boy slides six places to finish in 8th. Another first timer for finishing in the top 10.

Edicius81 in 9th is yet another consistent performer this year never being higher than 6th and never lower than 13th. Someone else who has not finished in the top 10 before.

Completing the top 10 is Norseman who has been inside the top 10 every month this year apart from January.

Elsewhere Martyn climbs a massive 28 places to finish in 14 after a rather quiet year near the bottom of the table. After winning the competition in 2011 Martyn has now finished inside the top 15 for each of the last three years. The only other person to manage this is The Professional (2011 13th, 2012 11th, 2013 3rd). redmoons comes close having finished 18th this year.

Snow Hoper had a good end to the year as well climbing 16 places to 15th. spring sunshine is also up 16 places this month to 24th. John S2 climbs 14 places to 25th.

Of course for every climber there has to be a faller. Taylor1740 was inside the top 4 every month until December, crashing 19 places to finish in 23rd. nouska, Quantum and Shez5690 are all down 14 places this month.

vince wins the wooden spoon for second year in a row.

Thanks for all you hard work Simon.  All those facts and figures going back to 2009 are quite amazing.

Congrats to Martyn for coming first during December and to Nemi for coming first through 2013.

Very pleased with my top 5 finish - Guess me and Alvin are the comekack kids.

Here's to another great competition in 2014.

Many thanks for all the work you've put in yet again GW!

Congrats to all in the top table and all for taking part.

I think I've done better this year than last year, but looking back at the charts for past years, my best position was 8th in 2010, though there were fewer people in the competition then.

Good luck for 2014 everyone!
