Amazingly 2013 is above 2010 now in average thickness and volume!

Excellent.

I would just like to echo a quote from Nevan. I think its appropiate to anyone that made predictions about this melt season:

"I take my hat off to anyone predicting this <high sea ice volume> would happen at the start of the year. Except if he or she does so every year. :-) "

No I just thought it was a pretty good quote. My predictions went pear shaped. In fact I think there are very few, if any people that correctly predicted 2013 that were not the sort that predicted 'recovery' every single year.

It's good to see some positives Q.

Tenuous as are they are .

I think we might break through the 1979-2008 mean anomaly this year,to at least 2004. (CT.)

Thanks for the link Tom.(another to add to my favorites).
I think though, at some stage during refreeze we will break through the 1979-2008 by quite a bit.

I base my assumption on the CT.anomaly charts.
Do you have any thoughts on this?.

Yeh I covered that one on realrealscience. Some of the stuff there is okay, I have seen worse daily mail articles to be fair.

I'd tend to disagree Q. That article looks to be full of inaccurate analyses, misquotes, insinuations and allegations with little in the way of scientific fact IMO.

Yes, like for like there is more ice this year than last in the Arctic but that's about as far as I would go at complimenting that article.

The next thing we know, the ice will be moving down from the Arctic, invading our shores, crossing our borders, stealing our jobs and claiming cold weatheer payments in the winter. (Note: If these four things do occur in a Mail article later this year, I'm claiming royalties )

Yeh I was being generous. I covered most of the problems in realrealscience: http://realrealscience.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/daily-mail-record-return-of-arctic-ice.html

But even so, I was not lying when I said I have seen worse.

Silly question: how can ice grow when it's melting?     And I bet someone, somewhere, actually believes the headine

The reality (and the same nonsensical headline has been posted elsewhere) is that although summer ice melt is still a lot more than models previously predicted, it's not been quite as much this year as it was last year.

btw here's the BBC article that the Fail refers to

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7139797.stm

Anyone want to write to the Fail and explain the different between could and would?      But why get basic English get in the way of a good lie?

Yes, the only problem is that there are those who might actually believe the article.

Have spent today drafting a response for Skeptical Science. It was hard to know where to start!

The best bit of silliness must be: if you start out with 14,523,635 km2 and end up with 4,893,380 km2, how can that be growth?? There are words to describe such assertions, but they are strictly Anglo-Saxon!

The Arctic sea ice extent is much higher than last year's record low but it is down from the 1980s average.  The Antarctic sea ice area is also approaching an all-time record level.

Does it signal that the global warming theory is wrong?

Well actually it does.  Along with many other indicators, it signals that the theory is 75% to 50% wrong.

That is something that many people will just not accept.

Just as balance, the Graundian is just as guilty

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2013/sep/09/climate-change-arctic-sea-ice-delusions

"It's certainly difficult to predict exactly when an ice-free Arctic summer will occur.  While climate research has shown that the Arctic sea ice decline is mostly human-caused, there may also be a natural component involved.  The remaining sea ice may abruptly vanish, or it may hold on for a few decades longer.  What we do know is that given its rapid decline, an ice-free Arctic appears to be not a question of if, but when."
