Given that I understand that the BBC are still required to pass on Met Office weather warnings, what is the presenter supposed to do if the MO has a snow warning in force in force for an area while the Meteogroup forecast for that area is for no snow at all?

Yup - not only are they unreadable - theyre pretty inaccurate too.

People used to moan about the older BBC graphics, but i found them in the main to be a good representation of shower/frontal activity.   This would actually tie in quite well with their app forecast too.

Their current stuff is not only unreadable, but has big swathes of precip that ends up nothing like the models predicting, and nothing like what their app is saying.  Ive now switched over to Metoffice for my daily forecas videos as theres is much better than most forecasts out there right now

The BBC's contract is with Meteogroup. To the best of my knowledge Meteociel is a completely separate business.

The presenters are in a very difficult position and it is confusing for the viewer. There may not be so much of an issue in default zonal conditions but this month  there have been massive differences between BBC forecasts and Met Office on TV, radio and apps.

BBC radio solent forecasts have been particularly poor, they quote a wide range of temps rather than a max and min like they used to!

Just had an em from the police saying:

With heavier snow and strong winds expected later today and tomorrow, motorists are being advised only to travel if necessary.

An Amber Snow Warning has been issued by Highways England for Hertfordshire.

Doesn't appear to be consistent with what is currently showing on the Met Office website.

After a clear frosty start across southern areas on Thursday, a band of cloud and rain will spread across all parts, followed by blustery showers, these heaviest in the northwest. Looking at the radar and the reports on here , it’s shows how crap the Beeb forecasts currently are. The Beeb focused on the South and SW well they were clearly miles out .

The strange thing is that by default the BBC weather engine runs on UKV, the same model as the Met Office use.

I can only guess that the loss of MOGREPS and, I suspect more importantly, access to the Met Office forecasters' discussion (which is issued several times a day IIRC) have had an effect.

That said, nobody did well with yesterday's forecast in this corner of the UK!

latest BBC graphics have the SE totally dry today even though the current radar is clearly showing snow entering Kent now

Meteogroup and their graphics are useless. Since we are paying for it through the licence fee, we must have some ability to force them to improve, at least the graphics

yes I think this has caught everyone out ...not least the professionals ! ...in the winter that won't let go! 

This afternoon's snow in the SE was certainly picked up by recent ICON and Arpege model runs. I'm not really sure why they have been caught out. I flagged it up on the TWO homepage this morning and noticed it was a possibility yesterday.

Have to agree with Brian , models were showing an area moving across the South, as usual since the change of data supplier the Beeb have cocked up
