Faux Cold
Still a long way to go ( Even when we’ve approached the final month of winter and have seen nothing but wind and rain)

a) Excessive posting of the ECM ensemble mean chart

b) Buzz phrases for a particular year being over- or misused. e.g. Mountain Torque, Shannon Entropy

c) Weather presenters decamping to some park or other and chatting to Groundskeeper Willie when they should be showing us the fluffing forecast (not just a winter gripe)

d) Modern/Postmodern/Dadaist Winter.

West based -ve NAO.

...when it's not a -ve NAO at all (using the definition of comparing pressure at Iceland vs Azores. Today's 6z is a good example.

'PV' is very irritating since people on here use it as an abbreviation of 'polar vortex' when its already the accepted abbreviation for 'potential vorticity'.

"As much as 1-3 cm of snow could accumulate temporarily on cars and grass below 200m"

Get on my nerves seeing warnings with that sort of text on. Story of our winter last year up here. Fingers crossed we can times that amount by 10 at some point this winter!

Shortwave.
Vortex.
Posters who seem to delight in spoiling the enjoyment of others. Seeing things or commenting on charts which are showing a different story.
Squabbling.
Putting posters down.
Repetitive Troll posters.

Posters who believe they have found a method which accurately predicts long range guesses, but won't say what this is.

On the whole can pretty much put up with anything else.

It should be a sackable offence.

Forecasters on TV going on about scraping windscreens.

I don't think I ever scraped a windscreen and don't intend to.

Not really terminology, but another thing I hate is completely OTT ramping. I have no problem with people getting excited by model output, but those who just post ridiculous, incoherent hyperbole and then bugger off until everyone has forgotten about it, when it inevitable goes to pot are the worst posters in model threads.

Again, like others have mentioned, I'm not going to name any names.

In terms of expressions that grate, I'm another who hates 'Uncle Barty' and 'blowtorch'. Then there's the 'modern winter' trolling.

If we're talking about what I hate to hear then "the snow will be concentrated in the east" or "the west will be milder" sum it up for me.

"Background signals'. Makes no sense.

The inevitable GFS vs ECM battles when things don't go according to hopes.

Don't mind the 'blow torch' term so much as it is an apt description of a tropical SW'ly. The controversial 'modern winter' phrase is another I don't have any issue with.

Ridiculous even if it's your opinion because what would be apt for the term "blowtorch" is a very hot southerly flow in summer.

'Modern winter' - we've had every kind of winter in the last 15 years so the phrase tells us nothing of what to expect.
