Faux ColdStill a long way to go ( Even when we’ve approached the final month of winter and have seen nothing but wind and rain)

'PV' is very irritating since people on here use it as an abbreviation of 'polar vortex' when its already the accepted abbreviation for 'potential vorticity'.

Get on my nerves seeing warnings with that sort of text on. Story of our winter last year up here. Fingers crossed we can times that amount by 10 at some point this winter!

I don't think I ever scraped a windscreen and don't intend to.
Not really terminology, but another thing I hate is completely OTT ramping. I have no problem with people getting excited by model output, but those who just post ridiculous, incoherent hyperbole and then bugger off until everyone has forgotten about it, when it inevitable goes to pot are the worst posters in model threads.
Again, like others have mentioned, I'm not going to name any names.

In terms of expressions that grate, I'm another who hates 'Uncle Barty' and 'blowtorch'. Then there's the 'modern winter' trolling.
If we're talking about what I hate to hear then "the snow will be concentrated in the east" or "the west will be milder" sum it up for me.

The inevitable GFS vs ECM battles when things don't go according to hopes.
Don't mind the 'blow torch' term so much as it is an apt description of a tropical SW'ly. The controversial 'modern winter' phrase is another I don't have any issue with.

"Icy Blast To Batter Britain".... bringing beefy rain and sleet showers to Scotland and then spreading south and petering out to leave a bitter night with temperatures plummeting to freezing point. Rain will then follow tomorrow from the SW.

'Modern winter' - we've had every kind of winter in the last 15 years so the phrase tells us nothing of what to expect.
