PS - Please don't penalise me for being 38 minutes late! It's not like any new model run has come out since midnight. Because it's not the night that I do the Posting League download at midnight, I forgot - I was busy stewing apples.

The latest output keeps the cool theme going. Yes a couple of warm days on Monday and Tuesday but otherwise the general trend is for cooler than average conditions, albeit only slightly below average. The two warm days may help us to stay close to average by the middle of the month on the 1971-2000 data but below the 1981-2010 mean.

Blooming heck!  I'm in the lower few, although I'm in good company.  It has to cool off a lot before I'm close.

Don't worry Caz. After a warm three days it looks like cooling off considerably over the next week or so with cool nights and days.

The CET stands at 12.34C up to and including today by my calculations.

However, the latest output suggests this figure could fall to 10.65C by the 21st. That would be 0.29C below the 1971-2000 mean and 0.61C below the 1981-2010 mean. So I think we have just seem a temporary warm blip in what has been a fairly lengthy spell of cool weather. The colder conditions are set to return.

41 of the last 58 days have recorded a CET below average. 32 of those 41 days have been more than 1C below average.

If we can keep skies clear then I think CET will drop significantly. The key players will be cloud cover and wind, both of which may become an issue across the south through the weekend and next week as easterlies establish

Thanks for the reassurance GW!  By your forecast, I won't be too far off the mark and you're usually right.  I feel much better now!

Interestingly, I see that, based on the provisional CET figures, 6th October was 16.3°C, making it the warmest day since 26th August!
