Indeed, got to see that at the end of the day, according to my traditional written weather records (described "vicious thunderstorms in the evening"). That came about after a hot and very sticky day.

Remember this day vividly.

A hot and sunny June day with a max of around 28c gave way to a veil of high cloud from the west at 5pm..we were at a birthday party. At 7pm a huge gust front arrived blowing glasses, cups and paper plates everywhere...the sky became angry with one of those swirling 'whales mouth appearance'.

The thunderstorm commenced at 7pm and continued until nearly 11pm.

IIRC there was a repeat performance one week later ?

Yep - I believe it was a MCS and after a sunny day (in Colchester, Essex) it clouded up in the evening.

The storm arrived behind a notable gust front that caused some significant problems to minor shipping on the Essex coast.

The lightning was spectacular and there was some decent hail at the outset.

IIRC I recorded 20mm from the event.

There were problems in the evening relating to admissions to A&E with athsma. Apparantly there is a corrolation between breathing difficulties and certain pre-storm conditions.

It happened again on saturday 30th July. I remember it well as it was our wedding day 😁 It had been scorching all day, up to 33c, and so everyone was outside at the reception. About 10.30pm it started lightning and then rain, thunder and a proper storm that lasted hours.

I remember there was a lot of distant lightning here during the evening period, but the storms completely missed us. We only got 0.5mm of rain from this event!

I recall this day well. I was 14 at the time and was just about to finish my 3rd year at high school, and I remember Friday 24th June as being a rather hazy and humid day. We did get rain in the evening and first part of the night, but I don't recall any thunder with it.

As it happens, I remember that some pupils from my year were on an end of term day trip to Alton Towers that day, and I recall one or two of them saying after returning home that their journey back had been hit by some pretty nasty storms. They also remarked about how hot it had been while they were there.

My goodness that sure brings back memories.

I remember that well. Can't believe that was 20 years ago.

I remember this day (24th June 1994) very well.

It was a very sunny day in Lowestoft. Altocumulus castellanus clouds started to move up from the S in the evening, and then the storms started to arrive by 22.30 hr with some spectacular lightning display to the SSW, including spider-like lightnings crawling across the sky.

However, once the storm fully arrived, there was only sporadic lightnings, say once every 5 to 15 mins, and an hour and half of heavy rain. By 00.30 hr, it was quiet, misty and cloudy with occasional light rain. Whether there were further storms for rest of the night, I'll never really know, but storms normally wake me up, so probably there were none (at least not overhead ones).

I remember the summer 1994 very well. June started off cool and unsettled, but had a good deal of warm, sunny weather from the 12th. July was mostly hot and sunny, but with some spectacular thunderstorms. August was warm but unsettled, with some further cracking thunderstorms.

I was too young to notice this one much

Incidentally, 1994 was my one good analogue year for this summer i.e. the only one with a preceding run of months that bears much resemblence to that of 2014.
