That's one of my early impressions of the Championship which is excellent. We're by no means every team's cup final which is great news

6,700 going to Barnsley next Tuesday night. Probably only Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool could do that for an evening game, especially with another away game (sold out) at Doncaster three days later. Anyone going to the Swansea game tomorrow, Barnsley, Doncaster & the home game v Sheffield United the week later will have shelled out over £100 in tickets alone.

It's all the more remarkable because our tickets never go on general sale for away games. You either have to be a ST holder or a member which in itself costs £35.

BTW Matty - I know that City could do something similar, but with it being midweek and with the membership criteria (one ticket per member) I think nearly 7,000 at any away game is remarkable these days.

😂 Unreal isn't it? He picked up a knock on his ankle in the England U21 game this week. Fortunately it's precautionary and he should be fine for next week. Yes, back to the real stuff 👍 although it's still going to be a while before we start turning out results. Really annoying when you look at the strength of our squad.

Yeah, there's no way we would take that many to Barnsley, or to use a local comparison, Swindon. Mind you that is Swindon 😂 Our poor start Tongue season and the injury situation has definately knocked our away following. We only took 1000 to Ipswich.

We're just nutters. I think you'll find the quality of our support at Ashton Gate far outweighs the atmosphere that we create at Elland Road, especially as that's one of the few aways I'll be putting in for this season.

Yeah I think as a rule away fans create a better atmosphere because it's your hardcore, any weather, any circumstance supporter on the whole. Whilst we continue to get outplayed and beat each week our support will continue to dwindle 😞

It's swings and roundabout though isn't it? Just four games in and there's a sense of optimism at Elland Road. Lose tomorrow and it'll be sackcloth and ashes.

Should be the highest Football League crowd of the season at ER tomorrow (26,000 or so) and we've already sold more tickets than that for the Sheffield game in a fortnight. We've opened the 7,000 seater Upper tier of the East Stand for the purpose.

But we've barely sold a ticket for the Preston game on the Tuesday after that. People's money only stretches so far, even if we seem generally to be bucking the trend of dwindling crowds generally at the moment. As an example in League One Swansea brought 2,750 fans up. Two years later in the Championship they've sold under 1,000.

I think I read or heard somewhere recently that attendances are down quite sharply on last season right across the board, even the Prem? Thing is whilst ticket prices continue to rise, often above inflation, and whilst people's disposable income continues to head in the opposite direction, and you take the increase in televised games into account, then attendances will continue to fall. People have had enough of the business side of football and are starting to vote, reluctantly, with their feet

Clubs (Leeds excepted) are selling Season Tickets off at generally reasonable rates but seem to be piling on the cost to the casual fan who turns up once in a while.

For example we have about 200 tickets left for tomorrow's game at £24 (£12 for kids). When they're gone, despite having thousands of empty seats a casual fan INCLUDING kids will be charged £32.

For the Sheffield United game ALL the regular cheaper (£29 & £15) tickets have gone with more than two weeks to go. £34 everywhere else. In the East Stand Upper a kid's concession rate of £24 is available. Thats' probably one of the highest prices for a kid's ticket in the entire country.

I know that Sheffield United's crowds are down by 5,000. That's a hell of a hit to take...

I'm not sure even the most passionate fan would say that Edgar Street is beautiful, but it has character. Those seats look OK, but something more permanent would be nice.

Gillingham have quite a large temporary stands behind the goal where away fans are put. It was certainly strange sitting in it (well, standing actually!) but it was much bigger than the one in those pictures.

If we're languishing in the bottom 3 I doubt we will. However, a resurgence and a visual improvement in performances and we'll all be there. We had two crap (with all due respect to Ipswich and Scunny) away games in succession, both huge distances. They're never going to be popular when you factor in all the other things I've mentioned. It's been a fair few years since Bristol City and Leeds Utd tussled. Many of our younger fans won't have ever been to Elland Road. The prospect of a 'new' team and ground is incentive enough for many 👍 The last time I saw us play your mob was around 18 or so years ago at a guess. It was a cup game at The Gate and you beat us 1-0 I think? It was an evening game and broad daylight so must have been league cup

I played for Hambrook in the Glos County league and various sunday league sides. a long time ago. perhaps we should open this question up to see who played the highest up the footie pyramid

Played for 4 different Sunday League sides, including Downend and Fishponds. Was never up to much. I always played left midfield/wing. I was properly fast when I was younger (37 now) and had a decent cross. Hopeless in front of goal though  although I have scored two hatricks, one of those included two penalties admittedly.
