This Spanish team has achieved a few notable feats in the last four years:

  • First team to win three successive tournaments. Only W Germany, to my knowledge, previously came close to doing this in the 70s (won Euro 72, won World Cup 74, runners-up at Euro 76).
  • The second country to win the Euros three times, equalling the Germans.
  • First team to retain the Euro Championship.
  • First European team to win World Cup when the finals have been held outside Europe.

I've quite enjoyed this tournament to be honest, possibly as a result of having little or no expectation for England.

Still no Spain's biggest fan but they did play well against the 9 1/2 men of Italy, so well done them.

The right (best) team won the tournament. You have to hand it to that Spanish team - they are miles ahead of most other teams in Europe and maybe the world at the moment.

I wonder what the odds are for Spain to retain the World cup in 2014?

As for last night a master class in Football by the Spanish,no team would

have beaten Spain last night.

I think Spain have the best defence in football history they haven't conceded a goal in the knockout stages of the 3 tournaments they have won. Surely this will never happen again a truly amazing achievement. For me Brazil 1970 is the best attacking side of all time.

Audience figures for the final 15.7m amazing for a match not involving England. BBC had 13.4m and ITV only got 2.3m Doh!

BBC were far superior ! I find Adrian Chiles so annoying to the point he makes my blood boil and his team of Carragher,Keane and Southgate 2 of which are hard to understand and the other as inspiring as a loaf of bread.

To be honest i just turned the sound off altogether, the BBC studio pundits were far superior but I would put Mark Lawrenson above the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Saddam and Obama for people whom I loathe the most

Clive Tyldesley isn't great I admit, but his voice isn't half as annoying. Why can't they get commentators these days like the late, great Brian Moore (best football commentator ever IMO)?

Now that the Euros have finished, I'm going to lock this thread and move it to the classic threads forum. Thanks for all your contributions!
