After Schmeichel...Paynter.

Not so sure about this one. 29 goals in League One is not to be sniffed at.

Time will tell.

Crap at Dull, good at Swinedon. A striker is only as good as the service afforded to him isn't he? Could be a cracking signing, could be a crappy signing. If he gets you 15 goals next season he'll be a fantastic signing

Aspirations for next season? Apart from meeting Lush Matt

Seems that way Matty , be honest , how are Cardiff looking ?

Just about keeping their heads above water at the moment. That's the facts as we now them, rather than speculation. I've no idea how they will progress. They may be fine if they get some money put into the club, or they may nosedive and lose their best players. One is already on his way out as I highlighted yesterday.

I see Beckford got his move to Everton. Seems to have been in the pipeline for ages now. I don't imagine Simon is overly worried or bothered. They'll need to replace him of course, but with the money they have made they will pick up a 15+ a season scorer at that level (lots at Championship level) without too much problem I would have thought

Yes Ledley has gone, Jones needs to keep the squad together. Will investors come forward in abundance???

As for Beckford he will find it tough in the Prem, is he good enough ? Not too sure it is a very big step up for him.

I put my thoughts on his move in the Premier League thread

I'm pleased for you Simon, but as he hasn't kicked a ball in the premier league I didnt think it was appropriate to mention him in there until he does so

Leeds to sign Clinton Morrison from Coventry City.

Absolutely nothing in the overstuffed rumour fest that goes on on our forums at this time of the year in relation to Morrison. News Now has no links either.

It would be underwhelming if true.

In response to Matty's questions - the Championship is such a fickle league, as you know. The difference between fighting relegation and play off aspirations can be 15 points or so...nothing over 46 games.

We won't take it by storm, that's for sure.

You've snapped up free-scoring Billy Paynter from Swindon, Simon. Largely unproven in the Championship. I for one will be interested to see how he gets on with a new strike partner in the league above.

A good signing from your point of view?

I hope he's been brought in as a supporting act rather than the main attraction.

My suspicion is that him and Becchio are similar. Certainly Paynter's no Beckford in terms of pace etc.

Sort of right, but there is nothing stopping clubs approaching other clubs, making bids and having them accepted. The transfer window is open, it's just that players can't officially register for a new club til July 1st

Fixtures for 2010/2011 are out

For our part we start at home to Millwall, which seems to have delighted the idiots on their fans forum with much chest beating etc We have history against them but, then again, who doesn't?

A tough run-in for us of Ipswich, Blunts, Forest, Derby and Dull.

Can't wait!

Here's a bit more Cardiff fun for you, just so we don't forget anytime soon

Still very quiet regarding speculation from my club. We let 9 go as soon as the season finished, but we haven't even been rumoured to buy anyone at all. Normally the rumour mill is in overdrive at this time of year.

On the plus side, we haven't accepted any bids for Maynard yet either. I expect him to go this summer. It will only be to a Prem club if and when he does go.

After posting that yesterday I see quite a few sources are saying this morning that we are in negotiations with Dave Kitson.

I'd welcome that with open arms, but I don't know that we will be prepared to meet his wage demands and, also, does this mean Maynard is on his way out? A Maynard and Kitson front pairing in The Championship would be formidable I think. Not that I think anything will come of it

Not half as formidable as Wickham though. Will be interesting to see how he does this coming season. If he's as good as some have suggested, he's probably playing in the wrong division.

And so it starts...the Newcastle effect. People are going to be sick of seeing us. Flattering in a way, but I didn't like the Newcastle obsession so I won't be a hypocrite and say I approve just because it's us.

First two games in the Championship on TV. 5.15pm kick off for the first game. Awful.

We had Cole and his missus over last night. He said there is a rumour going around the squad that Coppell has been told he has £20mill available to him for transfers this season. Apparently Lansdown has made it quite clear he wants the club in the top flight by the time the new stadium is open. If any of that is true then that's a huge amount of money in that league. He would be spinning me any crap, but the rumour may be incorrect, fo course. I do know for a fact that Lansdown sold £50mill of his business shares last year purely to put into the club and new stadium, so it may not be entirely without substance.

Also, star striker Nicky Maynard has been offered improved terms to attempt to keep him at the club. A wage increase to £16k a week which will make him the highest paid player at the club. According to Cole he is more than happy at City, but as I've said before - money and the allure of a top flight club talks

Super Cell

£16k a week in the Championship.

Wow.

One of the many reasons why England are rubbish. These guys don't have to achieve anything, or even play in the top league to be on easy street. Including add ons, pension etc that's over a million a year. Bet the rest of the squad, whatever they say, wouldn't be chiffed to hear that.

Not a go at Maynard, at all, just the idiocy of football in this country.

Completely agree. Evander Sno was on £25k a week when he was with us last season on loan from Ajax, although I don't know what percentage of that we paid. Regarding Maynard it's obviously an attempt to keep him at the club. Ironically there has not been a single enquiry about him yet, but I guess they're pre-empting it. Even two seasons back we were paying Lee Trundle £10k a week. Makes you wonder what the likes of West Brom, Newc and other teams of recent prem pedigree are paying their players whilst in The Championship. Cole was voted our player of the season last season. He's on £8k a week. I guess defensive/holding midfielders aren't given the same importance as strikers.

Rumour has it that £16k a week is what Beckford wanted during contract negotiations 12 months ago, ie when we were well and truly a League One team with a tough season to come.

No wonder he didn't get it...
