There is now a warning for heavy rain for eastern parts of Scotland for Friday/Saturday, which reflects the current model output very well.

A few tweaks in recent output have led me to hope that perhaps we may now avoid the worst of the rain up here but I’m not sure. On the other hand winds look like they could be more of an issue now with Boelo.

Brian, can we change the title to Austen and Boelo?

Do we also need a separate thread for the other named storm (Boelo)?

Sky filled in pretty rapidly here over the last hour with cirrostratus, which in itself is rapidly densing out to altostratus. Not expecting much from this for my region but it is on its way to wherever it is heading. Barometer is now 'falling rapidly'.

Latest 15z from the UKMO has the low (and associated winds) about 40 miles further north. A very windy 24 hours to come for the far SouthWest though nothing exceptional.

It looks like the Isles of Scilly and far Southwest will  bear the brunt of it - gusts to the low to mid 80s look likely here. With the wind from the North West which is the same as Storm Gorretti was then I'd expect damage to be exacerbated due to already weakened trees and shelter belts.

We’re hoping it’s not as strong as storm Goretti in January. Hopefully it won’t be at there isn’t any cold dense air to the north.

That said gusty storm force winds from the NW are not a good direction for Cornwall as the trees are leaning the other way. We could really do without losing power again.

if this came 1 month later perhaps get -8C 850's and copious amount of heavy snow showers as it not a dry set up.

Rain is fairly heavy and has been for a couple of hours. Not as heavy as further to the west though where there looks to have been a very intense squall or even rotating cell over Wiltshire. Wind hasn't really picked up here yet.

Lovely morning here…Wind so strong opening the back door feels like you’ve got a rugby team pushing against you. The rain is hitting the glass so hard they feel that they could breakthrough.

Lowest pressure overnight was 978mb now 996mb that’s in 3 hours. We still have power fingers crossed it stays on.

Currently in the lull between front and back of the storm. Worst effects in Sussex appear to have been in the Brighton-Lewes area, some trees down, local flooding (sounds like blocked drains showing up)

Nothing happened here, no breeze at the moment and a bit of light rain. I put a light bucket in the garden to see where it'd end up, still where I put it so nothing happened over night.

Have had a message from my brother in south Devon, just outside the orange warning, he said nothing of any note down there, what he really said can't be written.

Well I think the reporter on GMB this morning saying he had never felt winds like it needs to get out more. Raining, but calm here, but trees are down to the south of us here nearer the coast.

Storm Austen centre must be just passing by, as I observe that the rain which was splattering the windows at the back of the house, which faces S, at 0700, has now, 0930, started on the opposite side which faces N

Highest gust here in Jersey 84 mph at the airport.  Still very stormy, the noise is quite eerie.  Expecting a lot of damage around the island.
