A sub 10C minima in August is uncommon here, it last happened in 2021, and given the residual warmth and the 21C sea half a mile away I certainly wasn't expecting to see one this year. It's the first time in two and a half months that we've had one here. The only reason it's happened I think is because there's no wind whatsoever, and the dry ground has radiated heat away effectively. A quarter of a mile away, with a very slight breeze, it's 13C. 

Anyway - clear, calm, 10.2 / dew 9.1 The overnight low was 9.7 and yesterday's high was 22.3.

A mostly sunny start but as is common this August, it will cloud over by lunchtime

Despite the lack of sun, we have reached 19 C. The Airport, nearer the Forth has reached 20 C. Winds are light from the north or northwest

Other than that, it's felt warm in the sunshine, with a high of 20.9°C on my PWS.

So did Gogarbank with the botanic gardens reaching 21°C.

I spent another couple of days down in Hawick to celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday. I travelled down there on Friday but had to come back to Edinburgh today (Sunday) (I don't normally travel during weekends) as I have to be here on the Monday morning for some workmen coming to my flat.

I am now back in Edinburgh after that very short trip but just prior to me traveling back home, the forecast was for the temperature to only reach 18°C even in the Borders, only for the temperature at Charterhall to also reach 21°C so it seems as though regardless of what the actual forecast temperatures are, we are usually still going to get a 20+°C maximum anyway.

That makes me even more concerned now about the next day or so when we are actually forecast to get a 20+°C because I wouldn't be surprised if those next couple of days actually ended up being hotter than those forecasts with the temperatures possibly going into heatwave territory once again on one or both of those days.

Furthermore, there was clearly no lack of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank where a total of 7.6 hours of sunshine was recorded in the end.

Even with that, this month might still not necessarily end up being sunnier than average but a total of only at least 15.9 hours of sunshine need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this summer to go down as being sunnier than average and with another 8 days still to go, that is probably going to end up happening now with that requirement possibly even being met within the next couple of days.

17.2, dew 12.9, the overnight low being 16.6. Yesterday's high was 23.7, so a whisker above average.

Yes, and that will probably be enough to make it almost certain that this summer will end up being sunnier than average although the days are too short now to make it possible for that to be officially confirmed today. If this week ends up being sunnier than expected as well, this will mean that we still can't completely write off our chances of this month also being sunnier than average although we will need a really sunny week for that to happen and as the days continue to shorten, that is only going to become more difficult to achieve over time.

Rather than us possibly getting a 20+°C maximum today, I would say that we probably will get a 20+°C maximum today. That is actually forecast to happen today and given that days tend to be warmer than they are actually forecast to be, that to me make a 20+°C maximum a dead cert today.

Last night was rather chilly though as the overnight minimum temperatures were 5.65°C at Gogarbank and 7.18°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes last night our second coldest night of this summer so far and had that temperature been just a couple of degrees colder than what they actually were, we might well have even been looking at the possibility of a ground frost which is something which we would typically not expecting to be seeing just now given that it is technically, still summer.
