Yellow thunderstorm warnings have been issued across the UK, with heavy showers expected to lead to flash flooding and travel disruption.

I generally think my PWS is pretty reliable from a temperature perspective and we are hovering above 25c but for a short time of clear blue skies reached 27.0c an hour or so ago.

EDIT: The MetO text forecast for the SE today had 24 as a max, the raw for Heathrow has 22 for 3PM and 24 for 5PM today.

The text forecast has 23 tomorrow and the automated for Heathrow has 22 as a high tomorrow - with a greater chance of showers. Just about possible for another 25, but a bit of an ask!

26.4 at Teddington. Still almost 80F in the "cooler air"! Felt very muggy today and quite hot when the sun came through.

In the end, today's maximum temperature was 16.56°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 17.52°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today was cooler than yesterday with the rather pathetic total of just 24 minutes (0.4 hours) of sunshine being recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with this month (and possibly this summer as well) now looking increasingly likely now to go down as being duller than average in the end.

As for those showers which you mentioned, we ended up getting them and as a result, a total of 18 mm of rain was recorded from that at Edinburgh Gogarbank with most of that following within a 2 hour period with an incredible 10.6 mm of that falling in just a single hour to give us what is by quite a large amount, the biggest hourly rainfall rate of this year so far.

It's also cooler than it was at this time last night with the temperature currently at around 14°C here in Edinburgh.

All in all, this is now turning out to be rather a poor August here despite that really hot couple of days which we had fairly recently. This month is no longer looking anything like as dry now as it looked as though it was going to be at one point in time and the general outlook now looking more unsettled overall, this month (and possibly this summer as well) is also now looking increasingly certain to be duller than average.

We have had quite a number of Augusts in recent years to such an extent that this is often ended up being the month which has badly let down an otherwise decent summer overall. This is now looking like another one to add to that list with the way that it's now going.
