We had a DP low of 4.4c, remarkable for this time of year

Yep, it’s a rather strange one.

 The synoptics show the high pressure gradually slipping away southwards which would traditionally be the start of the slippery slope towards a much wetter and more unsettled period ahead as Atlantic weather systems then come in around the top of that high pressure.

Yet, there continues to be no signs of any proper cooldown or any properly unsettled weather within the more reliable time frame and that never used to be the case with such a change in the synoptic pattern.

I don’t know whether or not it’s still cloudy in Edinburgh but I do know that the temperature at Gogarbank is now up to around 23°C with the temperature at the botanic gardens now at around 22°C.

Here in Hawick, there’s still a lot of cloud around with occasional sunny spells and similar temperatures.

I've been sleeping like a log these past few days, the sort of deep sleep I just can't get when it's hot. Looking at the GFS (which has a run of hot weather from Friday onwards) I think I'll have to make the most of it!

Had these temperatures over both of the last two days been just 1-2°C higher than what they actually were, we would have been looking at yet another chance for an official heatwave to be recorded in Edinburgh tomorrow, so we once again haven't been all that far away from that.

With all of the cloud cover, a total of only 4.7 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening but even with that, a total of only at least 15.5 hours of sunshine needs to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if those conditions were met in the next couple of days or so.

Here in Hawick, we have seen increasing amounts of sunshine over the course of this afternoon and evening although there is still cloud around.

Currently around 20°C here.

Completely sunny with a light WSW wind

Today is forecast to be warm once again, but not quite as warm as the last couple of days.

However, I would completely disregard the second part of that prediction because with more sunshine around, I reckon that today could end up being every bit as warm as other recent days or possibly even warmer than that.

That has been happening quite a lot just lately and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that happened again today.

As I write, it’s already around 17°C here.

Don't think we will have a heatwave this year( last one 2022)

This means that had the temperatures over the last three days been around 1-2°C higher than what they actually were, we would have been talking about the first official heatwave in Edinburgh since 2022 being recorded today.

As at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening, a total of 6.7 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, thus leaving us with a total of only at least 7.5 hours of sunshine needing to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average. I wouldn't be surprised if that criteria was met as early as tomorrow.

As most mornings this week, plenty of blue sky and some fragmented stratus. The wind is now in the west as the change begins

A change might be coming but nothing is likely to change today and I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing changes tomorrow either.

In a way, there’s probably no point in reporting anything just now because every day’s report can easily be made up by copying and pasting the previous day’s report which just gets really boring and repetitive after a while.

Before I came down here, I had already known that this was going to be the case which is why I didn’t really want to be reporting that.

For that reason though, I will be looking forward to that change to less settled weather at the weekend which might finally give me something different to report for a change which might actually be worth reporting.

As for this morning, there is some cloud around just now but also some sunny spells. I could quote the current temperature but that doesn’t really matter as today’s maximum temperature is probably going to be no different from the last few days any, regardless of any actual forecasts which might tell us otherwise.

It actually feels a bit cooler today and I have noticed myself that the temperature up in Edinburgh is only around 20°C whereas the temperature at the same time over the last few days was already a bit higher than that by now.

Having said that though, it wouldn’t take much for those temperatures to jump up again this afternoon as just a wee burst of sunshine could easily be enough for that to happen.
