Thick fog, overnight rain, 14 C

So, in all it was a 3 day spell of warm sunshine following 10 days of cool, cloudy, damp weather I experienced in the western Dales. It's a very different world north of Manchester and Leeds. I do enjoy reading details about the heatwaves though. My daughters live in Nottingham and have found the conditions challenging, working and organising young children.

18c. Was sunny but cloudy has rolled in from the East. Sure it will break up soon, highs likely to be mid to high 20's for the foreseeable which is perfect, the intense heat has gone from here for now.

Cloudy for once! Looks like low cloud is blowing in from the sea, Aberdeen-style, and it's bliss. 😊

I've been out for a walk and though it's still really humid, the lack of searing sun makes a real difference. Today's a day for getting things done in the garden, washing the car (which is covered in dust), doing the hoovering - all the stuff which is just plain unpleasant when it's hot and sunny.

19.6, dew 18.4, the temperature haven fallen quickly in the last hour as a gusty NE'ly sets in.

The earlier dampness has cleared away and the fog has lifted slightly into mist and low cloud but it's still very dull and overcast with a temperature of just 15°C here in Edinburgh which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more.😡

Absolutely pathetic!!😡

Mid afternoon and we have reached 15.5 C in Scotland's Capital. One of the coldest places in Europe and western Russia

No surprise to see the North Sea cloud has burnt back, bringing abundant sunshine and still a NE'ly breeze. 22.1, dew 17.9, humid but around average temperature wise... not bad, considering how hot the airmass over the south of the UK is!

21.1C here at 5pm. After 29.4C yesterday and higher in previous days, , this is bliss.

Cloud dissipated late am, leaving a slightly hazy blue sky. We might actually get some sleep tonight.

32.5c the max here today, 6th day in a row over 30c. A bit more of a breeze but nothing to really stop the drip.

Best day of the summer here so far. Clear blue skies and a pleasant breeze that meant didn't have to shut the doors and windows all day. Temperature was mostly around 25-26C although briefly rose to 28.4C mid afternoon. Feels like a cool evening to watch the football.

Here in Edinburgh, the mist and low cloud never cleared away all day today and now, the fog has closed in once again at the end of what has been a very dismal day without even a hint of any blue sky or any brightness, let alone any actual sunshine. As a result, it not surprising that today will go down as a completely sunless day at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is in complete contrast to yesterday which was our sunniest day of this summer so far.

Somehow, today's maximum temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh managed to reach 16.53°C with the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank  getting up to 17.17°C but even that is quite a lot cooler than of late and not even the least but warm for this time of the year.😡

Currently around 15°C here in Edinburgh

The heat hounds in the south probably don't realise that Scotland can have different weather ... but closing ready for another week of high temperature reports.
