Not sure if this is a genuine reading but Exeter Airport No 2 station jumped from 31.1C to 34C in 10 minutes?

The Thames Estuary area seems to be the hotspot today, as Darren will have noticed. Around 31C there, the 18th 30C+ day of the year.

Tomorrow onwards sees the sort of pattern that I'd love in winter, a prolonged run of ENE'lies or NE'lies. It means the torch passes to areas further south and/or west of here, but going by the last two heatwaves there'll probably be a final hot day or two when the westerlies eventually return!

Hit 31C not long ago.

Dew points though rather low and coupled with the breeze it doesn't actually feel all that bad.

17 C up here in the Central Belt which is today's Max I think

That's 10 days under 20 C during this unremarkable spell on the trot! Indoors the house is 17.5 C. If the boiler was on, the heating would have clicked on.

The winter duvet is needed and folk are dressed in trousers and big coats. Rain falls lightly each day. The infrastructure seems to be holding though and it's a good job that Wimbledon and The World Cup are on to entertain folk inside safely!!

.......please note, the above is meant to be tongue in cheek.....we are going stir crazy due to lack of sunshine and a continual drabness in mid summer 😪

Likely to have seen the max now, although you never know. Maxed at exactly the same as yesterday, 31.6c.

Slightly higher humidity at 39% and the breeze is certainly less than yesterday so feeling warmer.

Today's maximum temperature was 17.78°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 19.01°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today was slightly warmer than yesterday but that increasing long wait for our first 20+°C maximum of this month goes on.

It's really the lack of sunshine which is the worst part of that though as we're now almost a quarter of the way through this month and yet, Edinburgh Gogarbank has only had a mere 7.1% of its 1991-2020 July average sunshine during this month so far as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 UTC) this evening with that only totaling 11.5 hours of sunshine for the whole of this month so far.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh, so it is at least a bit warmer than it was at this time last night with even some occasional sunny intervals coming through at times 9even that is something which we haven't really seen for a while in these parts).

Outside is a lovely 24.6c, the inflatable pool is 28.5c - not sure it will be very "cooling" after 10 days of this but anyway... £30 or so well spent

17c and sunny.

A lovely contrast to the past week, the cloud and wind has gone.  Not that the past week was anything other than average summer temps, but we have high standards these days.

Back to the usual summer stuff this morning! Sunny, calm, very warm and humid - you can smell the humidity as soon as you go outside.

20.1, dew 16.9, following an overnight low of 18.4. Yesterday's high was 32.0.

A much better day here in Edinburgh than of late so far.

There's still a lot of cloud around to start today, but there are also some decent sunny spells coming through at times, something which we've actually seen very little of just lately. That should be the norm for here at this time of the year and when the Sun refused to stop shining last year, that was very much the norm for here. Given what this summer has been like so far though, that is probably as good as it is likely to get here for now at least.

Today is forecast to be much warmer than of late though, so there should be no reasons now why we can't finally get our first 20+°C maximum of this month today. This is high summer after all and at this time of the year, we would typically expect a 20+°C maximum on any day to be more or less a given, even when it's not actually all that hot.

Even last night was fairly warm with an overnight minimum temperature of exactly bang on 15.00°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 14.86°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh

John beat me to it (above) As he says we should break 20 C today at last

We should get over 20 C until Friday

Looks like a NE wind will then bring the threat of our infamous haar by Saturday 😩

Drier air aloft today so no sign of the high cirrus and contrails we had yesterday - flawless blue so far. 25C on the nose currently.

Sadly, our lovely sunshine didn't last all that long and it's back to being overcast here in Edinburgh once again.

Unlike in recent days though, that cloud cover is slightly more broken with some small patches of blue sky in between, so I'm confident that we will see the Sun at some point in time today at least!!

Currently around 18°C here in Edinburgh with the Met Office going for a maximum of around 25°C for here.

After 10 days of cool gloom, Edinburgh has reached 20 C and the sun is trying its best to burn off the low cloud. Hopefully we'll have a sunny afternoon! 😎☀️

Anyway, I have just come on here to say that we now finally have our first 20+°C maximum of this month in the bag at long, long last at all three of my local stations.

The temperature here in Edinburgh is now up to around 22°C as I write with a lot more in the way of sunshine now, and with virtually all of the earlier cloud cover having now completely gone.😎☀️

Furthermore, the Met Office are going for maximums of around 25°C not just for today, but also for the following couple of days as well which would be enough for an official heatwave to finally be recorded here in Edinburgh if that was to come off.
