A rather dull and dismal day here in Edinburgh and even as we go into this after, there is still no recorded sunshine for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12:40 pm BST (11:40 UTC) this afternoon. This means that regardless of what happens during the rest of today, this month will now go down as being duller than average here.

Currently around 18°C here in Edinburgh.

Yesterday's UK max was annoyingly 24.9C so we just broke the streak of 25C days that had been running since the 16th (and looks like running for another couple of weeks).

White Rabbits!!

It's the start of another brand new month which now takes us into the second half of 2026 and into the period which we would regard as being high summer.

According to the 1991-2020 averages, this is our warmest month of the year on average and there has been quite a lot of talk on various other threads on this forum and elsewhere about yet another upcoming heatwave.

That is all a discussion for elsewhere but as far as the discussions for this thread are concerned and in the meantime, last night was slightly cooler than of late with an overnight minimum temperature of 11.56°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 11.87°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The month may well have changed, but our weather (or rather, the lack of any actual interesting weather here) hasn't changed and we still have that same old cloud cover and occasional sunny intervals with virtually nothing else happening.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh.

Another dull day. Reached 19 C earlier. Showers this morning then rain setting in mid afternoon, quite persistent now and the wind is really getting up

Today's maximum temperature was 19.72°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 19.09°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There was the odd sunny interval to start the day earlier on this morning but as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 UTC) this evening, just a really abysmal 36 minutes (0.6 hours) of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank which would be rather pathetic even in the darkest depths of winter, let alone in what is now supposed to be high "summer".😡🤢

With light to moderate rain having now set in, that sunshine total is now already looking likely to be today's final total.

All in all, a rather dismal start to another summer month but the last couple of months both improved by quite a lot after a poor start to each of them, and I'm confident that this month will do likewise.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

25.6c the max today, mostly sunny and a slight breeze from time to time.

Currently 18.8c, with a daily average of 19.1c so a promising start to the month to try and hit another 20c mean.

The good news is that the Sun is at least shining here in Edinburgh at times although there is still a lot of cloud around.

Last night was windy with gusts of up to around 38.0 mph at Edinburgh Gogarbank from the WSW which makes yesterday our windiest day of this summer so far.

Last night was slightly warmer than the previous night though with an overnight minimum temperature of 12.95°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 13.26°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

Today has still been windy here in Edinburgh but apart from that, it's been a much better day with more in the way of sunshine, especially as we have gone into this evening.

As at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening, a total of 7.8 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank which actually makes today our sunniest day of this month so far by quite a considerable amount, although that was never exactly going to be difficult given yesterday's conditions.

Even with those greater amounts of sunshine though, the temperatures still haven't been any better than what we experienced yesterday and so, today's maximum temperatures were 18.88°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 19.52°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Currently around 15°C here in Edinburgh

That cooling onshore sea breeze is much more notable today here at Folkestone. It peaked at 29 C yesterday at the harbour area on account of NW airflow from inland, right now (coming up to 12.30 pm) it is struggling to reach 20 C despite good (if somewhat hazy) sunshine.

Beautiful hazy summer day in SE London. Currently 26.3C here, 24C at the vineyard. Reckon London will get a few 27s and possibly a 28 today if it stays sunny.

As is usually the case these days, there isn't any rain to speak of here but apart from that, today is another disappointing day here in Edinburgh for what is supposed to be high summer with mostly grey skies and temperatures of only around 16°C here in Edinburgh.
