Now 31c with a light breeze

Seems like a bit of a farce. It had a brief pause but then reported temps that seemed fine...

The BBC seem to have access to the maxima as they come in live, not just the hourly readings we can see. Yesterday as well they were quoting live figures that were higher than the hourly/half-hourly readings on the site.

Will be a shame if 37.3 at Yeovilton doesn't make the cut - that's higher than the 1990 record too.

Hopefully they sort out these station reporting issues quickly.

Thanks for trying to explain this, given the hourly increments we see it would have been quite a jump within an hour only to come back down again.  

That's actually good news in a way, despite what it may seem. When the MetO X'd earlier about Yeovil it was full of the usual replies, including photos of the airfield, tarmac, rubbish stations, WMO grading them poor, etc, etc. By rejecting it it shows that the MetO will be ruthless if they think a station isn't performing as it should - and that can handily be pointed out to such folks in future. I daresay they'll scrabble around for another excuse, but it's one less thing they have to whinge about!

Merryfield is still an airfeld so they will still be moaning. Looks smaller than my local airfield though, Blackbushe - and that is almost always much cooler than surrounding sites!

I don't know where on earth the idiots thought weather readings were taken in previous decades or indeed in 1976. In deep woodland? Because of course we had no aerodromes or cities back then.

But then one of the usual suspects was making a big deal of the fact we "only just beat a record from Camden Square decades ago", Camden Square also famously being deep countryside.

It's the same story over here. Tax payer funded (and amply funded) Met service that only allows the public that is paying them top of the hour readings (and wiithout decimals), and then only 20 to 30 mins after they have been taken. 

Yes it would be interesting to know what Camden Square would record nowadays if we reinstated it. I looked back at the old Met Office summaries when those records came up in May and it was regularly 1 or 1.5C higher than Kew.

It was on the bbc news feed but it was obviously a mistake.  35.9c is correct 

Maybe they are upset that the SE didn't get the hottest place but in the SW that not known to have high temperatures due to location and 3000miles of Altantic next to it.  

However, I am noticing that the forecast is for it to then warm up again on Saturday but only up to around 24°C here in Edinburgh according to the Met Office and only for a day.

After that, it is then forecast to cool down here but only to around 20°C according to the Met Office with the temperatures then remaining at or slightly above that value for the foreseeable future.

36.5 was the max at Middle Wallop and also a 36.4 at Otterbourne Waterworks beat yesterday’s high.

36.5 at Guernsey has also smashed the all-time high.
