18.5mm of rain so far and over 70mm for the month now.

Hopefully the current mass trundling slowly eastwards over London and north Kent will have at least given some rain to you! Sheppey was, for once, directly in the firing line of this lot. I'm waiting for a (massive) video to upload from my phone, I think it might have a lightning flash or two in it!

In the end the storm decided to visit London instead. Thunderstorms make their own weather!

Just checked the rain gauge, an impressive 21 mm here at Folkestone harbour! I only expected 1 mm at the most, good for the garden ahead of the upcoming heatwave. Trouble is, now that it's all soaked wet, it's going to feel oppressive once the sun gets to work and temperature rise.

Quite a spectacular display and quite unexpected

We missed that one, but got hammered at about 4.30am from a cell that developed in situ.  flooding everything. At least the phone line didnt go down. 

That was stressful, just mopping up the garage now.  Hope thats it, but the cloud is building again now. 

Well I must say I was pleasantly surprised to be woken by thunder and the sound of torrential rain at 3.00am. In the end it was pretty good getting 15mm whereas nearby locations got 40mm nearer the centre of the storm. So for once my pessimism wasn't justified.

Estofex also has a Level 2 for a wider part of the British Isles which you don't see too often.

Fingers crossed! Hope the cold N Sea drift doesnt spoil our chances....it's ruined our chance of a heatwave!

Fat mid-level CAPE with adequate shear and tropospheric moisture most likely support severe haistorms with hail diameter in excess of 5 cm well possible. Heavy to excessive rain will be another issue as well as strong to possible severe gusts although the rather stable BL could lower that risk somewhat. Finally a tornado risk exists over N Ireland, where BL turns more unstable with a very fvorable LL CAPE/shear overlap. A strong event is possible.

A similar CAPE/shear space exists over parts of Scotland with all kind of hazards forecast. The large to very large hail risk dominates the hazards but a regional augmented tornado risk also exists near Glasgow and further W/NW, where LL capping weakens.

In addition to that, there are some very bright echoes now showing up on the latest radar maps to my south with quite a lot of lightning strikes showing up within a very wide area within that.
