There's another storm approaching now from the SW, just one or two distant rumbles from that

Must say some of the recent Met Office radar forecasts has been poor (not the text ones, btw), giving an impression of being only occasional light showers

From that, I can already hear a few very faint rumbles of thunder in the distance and it is getting rather dark once again.

Yeh I can see the odd flash through the cloud to the north. Little cluster of strikes showing up south-east of edinburgh on lightningmaps now too but they'll be heading away from us

Not as dramatic as last night, at one point it was like strobe lighting (I'd have posted but I'm only logged in on my PC)

That other cluster to the SE of here has now joined up with the other one which is now clearing away from here and the main focus for that now seems to be in an area stretching from just south of Aberdeen, all the way down to East Lothian.

In the meantime, there is some more activity developing in the Irish Sea between Northern Ireland and into SW Scotland which might be something worth watching for later on today as everything at the moment seems to be moving along a line from that sort of area towards here.

Fun fact - my daughter's photo of the lightning over the rooftops of Edinburgh last night was used as the background image at the start of the BBC Scotland forecast this morning.

This was tremendous. It approached slowly from the south and by 8:45am it was so so dark. Frequent lightening and monsoon rain but it was the darkness that will be the memory from this.

Ended up on the edge of that. There was a constant low rumbling thunder with a sudden burst of heavy rain and wind. There wasn't much visible lightning though, just a few IC flashes. It dropped the temperature by a good 10°C.

And further away caught some kind of a downdraught here, suddenly becoming very windy for about 10 mins.

I think this happened here last night around midnight. Became very boisterous for about 30 minutes around midnight with winds directly from the north. I reckon it was some sort of outflow/s from those storms over Donegal & Tyrone yesterday evening. 

Colossal booms going on here as storm cells move up to the left and right of me as I remain piggy in the middle.

Looks a different type of convective clouds to the ones I saw early this morning; this one being from direct surface convection rather than from the lower troposphere with the earlier ones I saw in Sheffield (i.e, Cb developing from Cu med & con rather than from Ac cas). The Atlantic airmass (rPm) must be beginning to filter through.

Of course, please correct me if I'm wrong.
