Distant thunder from a storm to my north at the moment.

Just drove through the most amazing storm, hail and flash flooding episode I've experienced in the UK. I was returning from skiing in Hemel Hempstead and as I set off the heavens opened. I reckon between 20mm and 40mm of rain will have fallen in minutes. It was extraordinary. Back in Berko (about 4 miles) only 4mm of rain fell.

Hail here too, but nothing like that (3 minutes of 2mm hail before it reverted back to just rain). Still, it was more frozen precipitation than we had all winter!

EDIT: The radar is messed up too, the deep purples here (>120mm/hour) are hail mixed with rain.

Second EDIT: More hail! This reminds me very much of the 80s, indeed I don't think I've seen so much hail in summer for decades!

Third EDIT: And a rumble of thunder as the storm moves away over the sea. Sunny for now... but only 13.6 / dew 10.0, having been 17.2 before the first shower.

This has to be the most interesting June day in many a year, weather wise. ⛈️

The heavy stuff is further south now, with the odd rumble.

One of the PWS near Canterbury had a direct hit from it: 8.9C at half three in the afternoon in mid-June is truly exceptional (11C below average) - but still not as exceptional as that May heatwave!

What a view! This is from my bedroom, I popped up there to see the storm that's heading in this general direction... will it hit, I wonder?

EDIT: Yes, a glancing blow at least - sheet lightning and thunder, the fourth storm I've heard today, and the third to produce rain. A remarkable day!

Second EDIT: Torrential rain, hail (2mm again), a slushy covering in my porch - and a peak of 82mm/hour rainfall rate (actual rain, not hail). Constant rumbling too, with lightning east and west, it doesn't have a chance to fade before the next one comes along. My own personal disco, I think!

Third EDIT: Another storm has now popped up to the west, ka-boom. Five storms in a day, aside from those 80s summer nights where the thunder seemingly went on for hours, this has to be a modern record. And now there's more torrential rain!

Fourth EDIT: Sixth storm of the day now... more heavy rain. I'm out of superlatives now...

My neighbour sent this photo of the sand school at her stables, which are a couple of miles away in the direction of that cloud I posted earlier... that's hail, of course, not snow!

The picture of the hail is my dream to see this happening here, i only saw some last month before the heatwave arrive.  None today just general bog standard boring rain showers.  Like to have a Nicosia hailstorm type to occur here that give you few inches deep.
