I'm surprised there has not been more mention on here or in the media of a similar heatwave in 1947 at this time of year (albeit it was a few days later in 1947).

Absolutely Frank - 1947 was arguably the best year in recorded history for extreme weather enthusiasts in the UK.

May/ June 1947 had 6 consecutive days of 30c in a row and August 1947 had 14 days in a row (something thats only been beaten by 1976). What a hell of a year that was weatherwise with the heavy winter snow and extreme flooding too!

And you're right about the summer. August 1947 was actually the hottest and sunniest August on record at the time it happened. It's been subsequently beaten a few times since, but to get the hottest and sunniest August on record, immediately after the coldest and snowiest February on record is truly remarkable. Let's see what this summer brings when it gets going!

I disagree. There is decent model agreement on a warm up, and we all know the sun only has to come out from behind a cloud for a few days now, and the temperature rockets with consummate ease

If the models are now showing that to be likely though, that could only have entered the fray after I last checked the model output because at that time, the prospect of another heatwave was if anything, moving further away into the unreliable time frame and the Met Office even mentioned that on Friday’s livestream on their YouTube channel.
