A stuffy night here, with the promised cooler NE'ly not yet evident. 16.7, dew 14.9, the overnight low being the warmest of the year so far at 16.1.

Yesterday's high ended up as 29.6, by far the warmest day of the year so far.

I lovely warm dawn with temperatures hovering just above 20 degrees…amazing considering I can see the sea out of the window. Some amazing cloud formations to our west as a few thundery showers moved NW. We now have a moderate ESE breeze and a current temperature of 22.3c. I wouldn’t expect the temperature to rise much above 24c today due to the breeze and forecast cloud amounts.

A dull and overcast start to today here in Edinburgh before the Sun eventually broke through as per usual so in that regard, virtually nothing has changed from other recent days.

However, there is a cool wind from off the North and because of that, today is cooler than of late with a temperature of around 18°C generally here in Edinburgh, and only around 15°C at the botanic gardens.

Dp currently reading 19c. Small bit of breeze but not much. Sky does have a more 'summery', bluer look than the last few days though. Just a pity that it feels so oppressive out there,, because objectively, it is a beautiful looking day. It's just that it doesn't feel it.

Hot outside and borderline unbearable indoors.

Temperature isn't as hot as Monday (yet) but hotter than yesterday. Humidity is on the up again with dew points in the high teens.

So much nicer today! Still sunny, of course, but with a light NE'ly it's 19.1, dew 14.9 - it feels pleasant out and the house is finally cooling down.

Back into the furnace tomorrow though, 32C on the MetO raw!

Still hot here, 30.8c the max. Currently 27c outside and 26c inside so have decided with a bit of a breeze, it's nicer to have that flowing through the house than keep it all shut up.

Today's maximum temperature was 19.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and only 16.81°C at the botanic gardens with a cool wind from off the North Sea.

Although it was cloudy for most of this morning with a brief cloudier period in the afternoon as well, a total of 8.3 hours of sunshine had still been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening.

This brings this month's total up to 81.8% of the 1991-2020 May average and we're now 87.1% of the way through, so we've not all far away now from making up this month's deficit. Tomorrow is forecast to warm up again and with that, it's likely to be sunnier than today, so a sunnier than average month in the end still can't be completely ruled out.

For now though, the temperature in Edinburgh is a rather cool 13°C.

19.9C. Cirrus above and calm. The disturbance last night that came with plenty of lightning and a few drops of rain passed majestically to my east as it headed north. Watching it develop around 10pm was interesting as it formed off the Isle of Purbeck. Frustrating as it missed me by a few miles. Even at 2am there were lightning flashes every 3 seconds way to my north and northeast as the cluster trundled on its way and grew.

So close and yet so far. As they say, next time perhaps.

Could be the hottest day of the year so far here today - the MetO raw has 31, and with a southerly the sea breeze won't save me today!

17.4, dew 15.1, both rising fast under plentiful sunshine. There were a few bits of accas around earlier (which makes a change), but they've since evaporated. It's going to be steamy and sticky today, I think... 🥵

Last night was quite cool here with an overnight minimum temperature of 7.24°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 9.52°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today is forecast to be warmer than yesterday once again though but for that to happen, we will need to get rid of that breeze from off the North Sea which is still around.

Today has started off with some cloud around, but also some decent sunny spells at times. With that, I'm still expecting another fairly decent sunshine total for today but probably not as big a total  for that as I was expecting beforehand.

Currently, around 12°C here in Edinburgh

Thunder & Lightning at 2am and a big storm is just trundling away to the north after an hour of thunder and some good lightning forks across the sky.

It's been great for me to experience 30 C heat and strong thunderstorms down here in the Dales during this exceptional heatwave. We just don't get these events up in Edinburgh very often

The issue which I have is that I'm just sick and tired of constantly experiencing that every single day, day in, day out so I would just like to see something different from that for a change. That way, I know that it will then be a lot easier for me to properly appreciate any further sunshine which we get after that.

That said, it's still quite cool here in Edinburgh as I write with a temperature of only around 15°C more generally and just 13°C at the botanic gardens so unless we suddenly get quite a big warm up later on here (for that, we will need to lose that North Sea influence which is still around), that official forecast for today to be much warmer than yesterday is going to end up looking rather silly.
