This has then led us into our usual bright and sunny start to today once again and although there's now more cloud around than what there was earlier on, the Sun is still refusing to stop shining here. As long as that continues to be the case, a sunnier than average month here continues to look like being a real possibility especially given that today was forecast to be the least sunny day of this weekend.

With that sunshine, it's already warmer than it was forecast to be (this is when it was meant to be cooling down according to those forecasts) with a temperature of around 20°C here in Edinburgh.

The cloud continued to increase during the day and there was even a little bit of light rain which made the ground damp without providing us with any actual measurable rainfall but the Sun would not go away without a fight and even now, there are still a few breaks in that cloud.

As at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening, a total of only 4.7 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This means that a total of at least 14.9 hours of sunshine now needs to be recorded there between the given time of this report and tomorrow's sunset in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average, otherwise this month will go down as this spring's only duller than average month.

That remains a very tall order which would probably require tomorrow to go down as our sunniest day of this year so far, but the very fact that this is even still possible going into the very last day of the month is astonishing in itself given the massive deficit which had built up in the first half of the month in particular.

As I write, the temperature is currently around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

That's very surprising to read Johnny boy. From your daily ramblings I had presumed you would be way above average from a sunshine perspective as it always seems that the weather is boringly sunny most of the time, interesting...

As far as this spring is concerned, we have been way above average and regardless of whether this month is sunnier than average or not, this has still been an exceptionally sunny spring here overall.

The very dull first half of this month has therefore just been a mere blip within that albeit one which looks likely to result in this month being slightly duller than average and it is the fact that it is so boringly sunny for so much of the time which has resulted in that very large deficit being very close to being fully made up.
