Last night was actually cooler than of late with the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropping to 8.22°C.

However, that cool weather didn't last for very long and as I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh has already shot up to around 19°C in the usual sunshine even though there's now a lot more cloud than what there was earlier on with only occasional (though still frequent) sunny spells.

Last night got down to 13.7c here so not too bad although obviously our upstairs was a lot warner than that.

Already up to 27.2c at 10:10, a full 3.5c higher than at the same time yesterday.

Davis reading 19c dewpoint here, and it really feels it. Extraordinarily high for the time of year... or any time of year to be honest. Skies are clear but a very distinct 'milky' look to it due to the sheer amount of water vapor trapped in the lower levels.

Today was once again our hottest day of this year so far with today's maximum temperature reaching 25.03°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 25.83°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This set a new date record at the botanic gardens for the second day in a row with both of those stations recording their first 25+°C maximum of the year.

In addition to that and despite a brief cloudier blip during this morning, today was our sunniest day of the year so far with a total of 14.5 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far as at 8:40pm BST (19:40 UTC) this evening.

As I write, Edinburgh Gogarbank has now had around 72% of its 1991-2020 May average sunshine so far this month. We are now around 80% of the way through this month as I write but the deficit is now closing very quickly and I am now expecting that to be fully made up in the next couple of days.

Currently a rather warm 20°C here in Edinburgh.

After an extraordinary 33.1 °C  yesterday and a minimum of 20.3 °C overnight, I wonder what today will bring?

Currently sunny and calm.

Difficult nights sleep but did dip to 16.5c in the early hours which offered some relief. 20c and sunny now. Probably a couple of degrees cooler here today but still likely hot at close to 30c.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 10.16°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 11.89°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. With that, it was warmer than the previous night but quite a bit cooler than it was forecast to be as result of the skies remaining clear throughout the night

With less than a month to go until the summer solstice, we have now entered into the time of the year in which clear nights never get completely dark all night due to the nights being so short and this allowed us to see our first visible sightings of the year, of that lingering all night twilight.

This in turn resulted in it being nowhere near warm enough in the end to even come close to challenging the minimum temperature record for May which the forecasts were suggesting that we could actually beat.

Following on from that though, this morning then started off on a bright and sunny note earlier on, but a lot more in the way of the cloud has now come down from the north. Even with that through, there is still the odd break in that cloud with the occasional  sunny intervals still getting through at times and as recent days have shown us, it hardly ever stays cloudy here for very long any more.

Today is forecast to be cooler than yesterday but as I write, it still feels a little bit sticky even though the temperature is only around 15°C here in Edinburgh as I write.

I'm still in Ingleton (Yorkshire Dales) for my long stay.

Temperatures look a lot higher in Northern England at 08:30. It's 23 C+ already in most areas including the Dales and Pennines

It was a tropical night on Emley Moor 😆 BBC reported a minimum more than 20 C and Leeds/Bradford Airport reported a minimum of 21 C 🤔

Here in Edinburgh, the Sun is out once again this proving yet again, the point which I made in my last post about it never being cloudy here for very long any more. That is how predictable our weather has become now, and is the reason why it's just become so boring now.

One thing which has changed though is that the wind has started to come in more from off the North Sea and that should help to ensure that today doesn't get anywhere near as hot here as it was yesterday.

For now though, the temperature here in Edinburgh is now up to around 17°C. The Met Office are still going to a maximum of around 20°C which will no doubt still end up happening.

Temperature here in Edinburgh, now at around 20°C which means that the "cool-down" which was promised for today, just isn't really happening but the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which are closer to the coast has now dropped to around 17°C, so there is clearly a breeze from off the North Sea in evidence just now, which just isn't really penetrating very far inland just now.

However, this does at least mean that unlike in the last couple days, no date records are likely to be set there today.

Main Davis thermo reading a 20c dew point in my backgarden currently. Ridiculous. Thankfully, there is enough of breeze to off-set the worst effects of that.

Edit, now make that a 21c dp!

We usually get a day or four around that level here each summer, but it's just nuts to see it in May, and in Ireland! The worst thing is very high dewpoint air takes ages to cool down, so unless colder air is blown in you get to swelter at night.

27.8, dew 18.6 here (really missing the sea breeze) - and that's stuffy enough.

Under normal circumstances, one would reasonably expect the sky to explode at any moment under these sort of conditions, but hardly a cloud in the sky.. save for a few barely discernible wisps thorugh the water haze.

DP rose to 22c here earlier in the afternoon and remains that way still. What little breeze there was is now gone and it is just impossible to work in the garden for more than 10 mins at a time. Just awful. That, and now a big purple pink face to boot. 28.1c currently and 68% rh.

Here in Edinburgh, today was a bit cooler than yesterday with the maximum temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh only reaching 19.20°C thanks to a breeze from off the North Sea, but the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank still reached 21.9°C, so it hasn't really cooled down by all that much today.

Today also wasn't quite as sunny as yesterday overall but as at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening, a total of 10.9 hours of sunshine had still been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as the Sun continues to refuse to stop shining.

As I write, we are now around 83% of the way through this month with around 77% of our 1991-2020 May average sunshine having been recorded for this month so far. This means that it could still be very much touch and go as to whether this month ends up being sunnier than average or not, especially if it gets a bit cloudier by the end of the week.

Nevertheless, it is a bit cooler here just now than it has been in recent days with the temperature here in Edinburgh, only at around 14°C as I write. As a result, it finally doesn't feel so sweltering hot in my flat and I'm feeling a lot better for that. As a result, we at least won't have to worry about tonjght possibly being our warmest May night on record.

Some very black clouds rolling over now. Still oppressively warm and humid but the lightning with the rain that may have accompanied it seems to have stopped just a couple of miles short of us.
