A brisk ENE wind makes its presence known under partly sunny skies. The 11.2C still feels chilly. Rain bubbling in from France dissipates in its usual way as it tries to reach the South Coast. Look at Biscay on the radar...

And not just rain approaching from the south,  even from the north; the Arpege chart for T+79 shows showery activity over W Wales which drops out as it crosses S England only to re-intensify in the Channel at T+82!

Very cool at 1.30pm central London just 12 degrees … a portent for a seriously cool balance of May to follow?

Despite all of the forecasts of cooler weather, there's nothing cool whatsoever about our weather here in Edinburgh with a temperature  of 15.4°C being recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yet more evidence that our weather hardly ever changes from one day to the next here any more regardless of the actual synoptic setup which is why it has all now become so boring and uninteresting to the extent that I hardly ever want to be on here any more.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

A minimum of 0.5C here this morning at 4.21am.

Put out some young plants put out over the weekend never thinking a ground frost was likely or even possible in my location.  Frost still around at 7am with a temp of 4.5C.

A rare one for here - light rain (0.4mm so far too), 9.8C - and that's rare at half one in the afternoon this late in the year! The high so far today is 11.5 and last night's low was 4.8.

Clear, calm and sunny at 7.7 °C (low 6.6 °C), so avoided a frost this morning. Still feeling fresh.

The chance of heavy thundery showers in the next few days after a dry today, the BBC suggest to me. Avoided the rain yesterday, bar a few drops in the afternoon.

A second consecutive frost here this morning. Garden thermometer was below the zero mark when I checked earlier. Yesterday's slight accumulation of rainfall was frozen in containers where it had collected. Not ideal again for new growth in the garden but I suppose it's interesting for the time of year

There has been some showers to our north for quite a while though without any of that heading in our direction, so the Sun continues to shine here as it usually always does at this time of year in particular (I have no doubt as well, that it will also continue to be as dry as it normally is here) with a temperature of around 13/14°C which as per usual, isn't all that chilly for here at this time of the year.

With all of that in mind, I don't think that any of that is going to spoil your enjoyment of being in the garden any time soon.

Thats right John, I've had sun mostly all day and 14 C feels fine in the shelter and sun.

A few heavy showers passed well to the north and east of us

Horror story massive hail storm in Fulham temperatures plummeting and squally :

a portent for a week at least of very unsettled weather and below average temperatures

A fantastic morning - strong sunshine interspersed with towering cumulus and, in the last 40 minutes, a heavy shower (with thunder), then another heavy shower (with hail and thunder, and some very squally winds).

It's now 8.7, having fallen from 14.8 before. There has been 2mm of rain so far, most welcome.

That makes it the most interesting weather day this year here!
