Last night was chilly once again with a ground frost as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped to 1.4°C.
There was also some thick but shallow fog around at around sunrise, but that disappeared very quickly to leave us with a virtually completely sunny day so far with a total of 7.1 hours of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2:40pm GMT (14:40 UTC) this afternoon. That left us needing a total of only at least 0.6 hours of sunshine to be recorded between then and the end of the month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average. As it has continued to be completely sunny here since then, that target has probably already been met which means that regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this month will now go down as being sunnier than average.
We are only around two-thirds of the way through this month as well which means that as was the case last year, this is already shaping up to be yet another exceptionally sunny spring here (although this month has been nowhere near as dry as the same month last year).
In addition to that, I can also report that today is also our warmest day of the year so far with a temperature of around 17°C here in Edinburgh, and even up to around 18°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is even warmer than what Jerry was hoping for yesterday, and warmer than what was actually forecast for today.
