Different here where 12mm of rain from the storm just doesn't really cut it. Hanningfield and Abberton (which supply south and north Essex as of today are below average at 56% full.

The monthly rainfall is 89mm so far.

A dry day today, which is a feat in itself, but noticed we are at a very symmetrical 123.4mm now for the month.

98.8mm here for the month which is the wettest since February 2024. Despite  the horrendous floods in the West and N this is most welcome as our reservoirs are still at 50-60% full. After the very dry year including the first half of winter here the ground is starting to saturate although no signs of flooding. It's interesting how the Geology of much of the UK helps to an extent. The more chalky, sandy soils of parts of Britain drain well. Not sure what the soil type is in these flooded area but if we had that sort of rainfall on our London clay it would be catastrophic.

134.2mm in the end here so close to 200%.

Out of our 3 local aquifers (all of which are about 115 metres as their normal range max) only one is any near close to that at about 1.5m away, the other two are still 5+ metres off. This time last year they were all 20cm or so off the top so plenty more rain needed in reality here.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Monthly Data

Final total for January 2026: 46.2 mm (63.3% of 1991-2020 January average)

Number of rain days during January 2026: 15 (112.8% of 1991-2020 January average)

Number of dry days during January 2026: 7

In terms of the actual rainfall amounts, January 2026 was yet another drier than average month and so, the overall deficit from last year continues to grow here whilst it has been more than made up elsewhere. The difference this time though, is that the number of rain days was actually higher than average which is a bit more in line with elsewhere.

Seasonal Data

Total for this winter so far: 120.0 mm (57.4% of 1991-2020 winter average)

Number of rain days during this winter: 26 (70.1% of 1991-2020 winter average)

Number of dry days during this winter: 18

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 46.4 mm (5.9% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of rain days during this year: 15 (10.9% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of dry days during this year: 7
