But after yesterday's deluge, this morning the spring was running again, and not just a trickle but quite vigorously.

The yellow ice warning has been removed :-)

It had me wondering yesterday as metoffice itself reckoned temps weren't meant to go below 4c here, they didn't go much below 6c in the end

Yesterday's snow on the Pentlands soon melted and I've been out and washed the car.....feeling almost Springlike 😂

Yes and as at 10:40am GMT (10:40 UTC) this morning, a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine had already been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. That was only our first recorded sunshine for an entire week but this now leaves us needing a total of only at least another 3.6 hours of sunshine between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average.

The rest of the week beyond today isn't looking particularly sunny according to the latest forecasts which means that if that target isn't achieved by the end of today, we could still be struggling to get over that finishing line. However, I feel more confident now that this target will be achieved possibly even by the end of today, and that this month will be sunnier than average after all but with that run of sunless days which we've just had, I was starting to doubt that a little bit.

That hasn't been enough to actually give us our sunniest day of the year so far, but this does mean that more sunshine has now been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank this month than the 1991-2020 average which means that regardless of what happens during the last three days of this month, this month will now go down as being sunnier than average. The outlook for the next few days isn't looking all that sunny but in terms of what this month has been like overall, that is something which we don't actually need to worry about now.

We actually had a very sunny start to the year with those northerlies because whilst they were delivering a lot of snow to other parts of the UK, we were getting a lot of dry and sunny weather from that, and that is what has resulted in this month being sunnier than average overall. As a result, I would say that people like Jerry who thought that this month would be slightly duller than average due to all of the more recent dull weather, probably slightly underestimated the effects which the earlier sunny start to the month would have on that but given that we were already very close to achieving that target a whole week ago, I was always confident that we would get there in the end, even with that recent dull weather.

The min was an interesting one today, I left for work at 6:45 and it was 2.4c, my wife left an hour later and it was 0.8c and then an hour later again was the low at 0.3c 

The fact that it has clouded over has probably set the scene for the next few days now as the outlook isn't particularly sunny according to the latest forecasts and so, I have a hunch that tomorrow bring a return to cloudier and possibly gloomy conditions which look set to be around for the rest of the month with today's much sunnier day now looking like a completely one-off event.

This morning started off rather cloudy with just the odd break in that cloud which wasn't even enough to allow us to see any early sunshine and now, light showery rain has moved in from the east.
