As dawn approaches, the skies have finally cleared here in Edinburgh, so I'm hopeful that we might see at least a little bit of sunshine to start the day in a short while but more high to medium level cloud is also coming in from the west.

Currently around 6°C here in Edinburgh and not even the least bit cold for this time of year.😕

The weather here this morning can be summed up in one word: "foul". But surprisingly, we still seem to need the rain. There's a small spring not far from where I live that normally starts running at some point during the autumn before drying up again during the spring, but this winter it hasn't started yet, even though the surface soil is by now thoroughly sodden.

It had me wondering yesterday as metoffice itself reckoned temps weren't meant to go below 4c here, they didn't go much below 6c in the end

At last!! After 9 days of gloom we have blue skies and sunshine and the temperature at Swanston is up to 7 C

Yesterday's snow on the Pentlands soon melted and I've been out and washed the car.....feeling almost Springlike 😂

That was only our first recorded sunshine for an entire week but this now leaves us needing a total of only at least another 3.6 hours of sunshine between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average.

The rest of the week beyond today isn't looking particularly sunny according to the latest forecasts which means that if that target isn't achieved by the end of today, we could still be struggling to get over that finishing line. However, I feel more confident now that this target will be achieved possibly even by the end of today, and that this month will be sunnier than average after all but with that run of sunless days which we've just had, I was starting to doubt that a little bit.

In the end, a total of 5.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for today Edinburgh Gogarbank.

That hasn't been enough to actually give us our sunniest day of the year so far, but this does mean that more sunshine has now been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank this month than the 1991-2020 average which means that regardless of what happens during the last three days of this month, this month will now go down as being sunnier than average. The outlook for the next few days isn't looking all that sunny but in terms of what this month has been like overall, that is something which we don't actually need to worry about now.

We actually had a very sunny start to the year with those northerlies because whilst they were delivering a lot of snow to other parts of the UK, we were getting a lot of dry and sunny weather from that, and that is what has resulted in this month being sunnier than average overall. As a result, I would say that people like Jerry who thought that this month would be slightly duller than average due to all of the more recent dull weather, probably slightly underestimated the effects which the earlier sunny start to the month would have on that but given that we were already very close to achieving that target a whole week ago, I was always confident that we would get there in the end, even with that recent dull weather.

Currently around 4°C here in Edinburgh

A pretty nice day all-round here, dry and mostly sunny or bright at least.

The min was an interesting one today, I left for work at 6:45 and it was 2.4c, my wife left an hour later and it was 0.8c and then an hour later again was the low at 0.3c

The fog wasn't around here for long before it lifted but it has now clouded over and the temperatures are now refusing to drop,

The fact that it has clouded over has probably set the scene for the next few days now as the outlook isn't particularly sunny according to the latest forecasts and so, I have a hunch that tomorrow bring a return to cloudier and possibly gloomy conditions which look set to be around for the rest of the month with today's much sunnier day now looking like a completely one-off event.

Currently around 3°C here in Edinburgh, but with that temperature now starting to turn upwards once again.😡

Last night, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped to 1.4°C with an early ground frost before going back up again as it clouded over yet again.

This morning started off rather cloudy with just the odd break in that cloud which wasn't even enough to allow us to see any early sunshine and now, light showery rain has moved in from the east.

Currently around 6°C here in Edinburgh and not even the least bit cold.😡

Thursday was a cold, damp, dark miserable day after some respite yesterday. Max was 5.9C and now at 1.30am it is raining, 3.3C and D.P -0.3C. If it was heavier rain I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit sleety/snow on higher ground. Glad I'm not some poor sod working on the roads tonight.

6.7C. Bright, well it will be when the sun gets up but more rain approaching for later. Ten days on the trot with measureable rain and it shows in Dorset. 15mm overnight. Based on recent years we'll be in a long dry come spring when we need growing rain.

But who knows?

I'm on a grim train journey south from Edinburgh to Newark. So gloomy, misty and wet with extensive flooding in The Vale of York. Goodness knows what the tourists think to this dark, wet land!

A very pleasant sunny drive from Chichester to Hereford for lunch with friends. After Hereford en route for Brecon the clouds came down , it rained heavily and there was a 25-mile diversion for road closed. (Why can't they keep one lane open when such lengthy detours are the alternative 😠😠😠😠 but maybe that's for the Broken Britain thread). Temps 6-8C depending on altitude
