Great we miss the snow but get a lovely amber warning for wind. The direction isn’t good either a NW is a gusty edgy type of wind which will cause a lot of concern.

A South westerly is a steady wind with slowly rising gust. Temperatures this evening have now gone above 10.5c.

I’d swop my location at the moment for the eastern Peak District..my old haunt ..snow I love wind I hate.

Met office app have wind gusts of 84mph for here at 19:00 hours followed by 77,72 and 68mph. I hope these moderate if not I would expect to lose power but hopefully not the roof.

Weirdly, the Met Office app shows about 14 hours of purely snow here.

Yet their model has us on the fringe of the ppn and only rain/sleet. We're outside Both yellow and amber warnings. Both the BBC and Android forecasts have us with sleet.

How come 'Storm Goretti hits Europe with landmarks covered in snow' when it hasn't even arrived yet?

"Flights were cancelled, train services disrupted and roads were blocked as Storm Goretti swept across the region" so Sky say.

It's now within range for radar watching. If anything I would say the rain is slightly further north than modelled at this stage.

The system has deepened by 4mb in the last 80mins and is a little North of model blend track for 12Z.

There is as I feared still a risk of a vector that takes the very strong winds along the far South and not just the far SW and CIs (which look likely to receive damaging winds this evening).

I know I'm banging the drum on this one but the wind speeds forecast for the Isles of Scilly this evening are exceptional.

Most models are now showing a period of 100mph and above gusts with mean wind speeds between 65 and 85mph!

Given that this is coinciding with the high tide and is from a more unusual direction I've a feeling it may well cause significant damage sadly. The islands are used to a gale but the last 100mph+ storm was way back in 1997.

If the models continue to show this through the day I'd be surprised not to see a Red warning later.

A RED upgrade in this scenario is possible and yes all mobile phones in the warning polygon will sound an alert.
