"Snow that falls on lying snow / Foretells there's more to go"

The sleety stuff we had this morning left behind a few patches of white blobby bits on the lawn, FWIW, which I think was either snow or graupel - it lingered all day in a couple of spots, and even now the ground is still frozen under a mm or two of mud - it's like going to an area with permafrost in summer! There were also rain puddles on the lawn first thing, which then froze - seems the frozen ground stopped the rain soaking in, so it pooled, then the cold ground froze the lot.

The fun thing is it's been above freezing since 11AM yesterday. Just goes to show what a few very frosty nights and low dewpoints can do!

It was 2 Deg this morning after overnight rain.  Lethal in places - everything frozen solid  with  layer of black ice on top - about as bad as it gets - far worse than the rutted snow of yesterday.

Came across a bloke at 90 degrees across the road  with the front of his car smashed in.  He was fine, just waiting for recovery.

He had put the brakes on to avoid a deer.  Just managed to edge my car pass his wreck.

After a period of rain overnight on Tuesday might causing a slight thaw there has been some heavy overnight snow adding a blanket of snow on previous cover or cleared surfaces. It is just below 0°C now and misty giving an eerie look over the city.

Yes, another 4 inches possibly, recovering roads, trees etc.  The mist/fog is adding to the otherworldliness this morning!

Had a few cms of fresh snow last night, still a considerable depth of snow here in cragganmore. We escaped with only -6C last night as we had some mist and fog, a mile up the road had -12C , those figures will be busted tonight I feel as we are still at -6C at midday 😣

I'll bring the Snow Reports Thread back up for the snow reports north of the storm. Snow showers are starting to move in from the east now

Well it's snowing here. Very wet and not what I'd deem 'heavy'. No chance it'll stick (unless it gets a lot heavier, which is unlikely as the front seems to be fragmenting)

Light snow in Blackrod about an hour ago, leaving a very light dusting. Got to work in Manchester city centre just now and it's more rain with a very little bit of snow.

after 5 minutes of huge wet flakes falling horizontally in the wind here in Okehampton and the temperature falling to 0.8c it has now risen to 1.8c with sleety rain again. - That's it I think? oh well. Was interesting how the temperature rose so high to +11c with drizzly rain today then dropped to 0.8c in a matter or hours with heavy sleety snow and now rises to 2.0c again and continues to rise with sleety rain and perhaps soon becoming all rain!? :/
