The Aurora is visible on the North horizon, for me.

Everything taken together, here in Lincolnshire are more good things than man could have had the conscience to ask.

"Improved models of yesterday's CME suggest that it might hit Earth, after all. A glancing blow (or near miss) is possible on Dec. 7th, potentially sparking a minor G1-class geomagnetic storm. The CME was launched on Dec. 4th by an M6-class solar flare from sunspot 4300."

"There is plenty to keep stargazers amused through the rest of December.

From a planetary conjunction to the astronomical start of winter to some of 2025's most prolific meteor showers.

The month has already got off to a stunning start with a third consecutive supermoon lighting up night skies with the added interest of a rare double lunar halo and the Northern Lights also putting on a dazzling show."

Interesting piece on the risks/dangers to earth from Solar Storms.

"...the charged particles hurled into space by our tempestuous Sun - the particles that create the aurora borealis - can also unleash very rare but extremely disruptive events here on Earth. Electricity supplies, satellites and air travel can all be affected by the most violent solar storms."

Decent Aurora tonight in Shetland cams and also Northumberland ones

I don't have a great horizon view of the North but managed to capture a bit of faint green and red in the distance out of my upstairs window.

This morning (Dec. 27th @ 0150 UTC), Earth-orbiting satellites recorded a strong M5-class solar flare: image. It came from a developing active region near new sunspot 4323. This region near the sun's eastern limb seems poised for significant sunspot development. If so, the flare could herald more explosions to come. [Space Weather]

Mind-boggling stuff:

There is growing controversy over recent evidence suggesting that a mysterious force known as dark energy might be changing in a way that challenges our current understanding of time and space.

An analysis by a South Korean team has hinted that, rather than the Universe continuing to expand, galaxies could be pulled back together by gravity, ending in what astronomers call a "Big Crunch".

Dark energy just got even weirder and why the Universe may end in a 'Big Crunch'

Sunspot 4317 was not considered to be a threat for flares - but it erupted anyway. A model from NASA suggests it has an Earth-directed component that will reach our planet on Jan. 1st, potentially sparking the first Arctic auroras of the New Year.
