This is still a report for Saturday but I thought I'd add it here anyway where it will be more likely to be seen.

After a short while this morning, most of the cloud cover had disappeared and in the end, a total of 6.4 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes today our sunniest day of this month so far. In addition to that, this means that there has now been more sunshine this year at Edinburgh Gogarbank than the 1991-2020 annual average so regardless of what happens between now and the end of this year, this year will now go down as being sunnier than average. Furthermore, this has happened with more than two and a half months to spare, thus showing us yet again that this continues to be the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 15.7°C.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh

This morning has started off with a lot of misty low cloud overhead here in Edinburgh, but with clear skies to my south and as is usually always the case, the Sun will no doubt appear at some point in time even if that isn't actually happening in other parts of the UK (clearly, yet another result of this being the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining here).

Meanwhile, it's a bit cooler than of late just now, but still not all that cold at around 8°C.

Love this dry and overcast anticyclonic weather. Temp currently 7.7c. I imagine if skies were clearer temps would have managed to reach closer to zero.

Incredible local weather here in south Edinburgh over the last few days, dazzling sunshine on Autumn colours and bright moonlit nights. The big orange moon has been rising up above Arthurs Seat the last 3 nights looking amazing. Sat in the garden for lunch today at 15 C and really strong sun.

From up the hill this morning we could see thick low cloud shrouding the islands in the Forth. It looked more like lumpy cloud than haar with the sun illuminating it's top

The total amount of sunshine there for this month is now up to 31.4 % (which is almost a third) of the 1991-2020 October average and we're now just under 39% of the way through this month but the very dull start which we had to this month has clearly just been a minor blip and I wouldn't be surprised in any way if this month continued that long run of sunnier than average months here.

I will say though, that today hasn't actually been quite as warm here as you have indicated at least at Edinburgh Gogarbank where today's maximum temperature was actually just 14.4°C and that is slightly cooler than of late. With only very light winds and plenty of sunshine though, it has still felt warmer than it actually is and in any case, recent days have been a bit warmer than I would like them to be at this time of the year.

However, tonight is a bit cooler than of late as the temperature has now already dropped to around 8°C here in Edinburgh and with Halloween now just around the corner as I write, I'm even seeing a little bit of eery mistiness here in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

Very dense fog has now descended here in Edinburgh as I write, which is now making everything look even more eery.

During the night, dense fog gave way to a little bit of light rain and drizzle (not exactly what you would typically expect when you're under a big area of high pressure such as what we still are).

None of that light rain and drizzle has shown up on the rain radar maps and very little of that has led to any actual recorded rainfall at the nearby major weather stations, but this has nevertheless given rise to a very gloomy, misty, overcast and damp start to today here in Edinburgh.

After a cool start to last night, the temperatures then refused to drop any further but the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was around 7.1°C which was still a bit cooler than of late although that was recorded very early in the evening.

Currently around 9°C here in Edinburgh

Fast, racing cloud with plenty of bright spells in this part of the deepest, darkest, SE Cornwall coast. 13c and a fair bit breezy.

Should be a dry day and we're probably off to see if there's any Pirates in Penzance today 🏴‍☠️😄

Yes drizzly and damp here first thing. Walked up the hill into thick fog which suddenly appeared late evening yesterday, this has now thinned out but a very different day today, gloomy, misty and 11 C

As a result, today now looks set to go down as our third completely sunless day of this month at Edinburgh Gogarbank and our 34th completely sunless day of this year, although it is only our 4th sunless day of this autumn.

With that, today has been a little bit cooler than of late once again with the temperatures here in Edinburgh rising no higher than around 12°C which is roughly where we are just now as I write.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 12.2°C which makes today our coolest day of this autumn so far but according to the Met Office, that's probably as it's likely to get for the foreseeable future so no signs yet of that elusive first single figures maximum of the season.

Currently around 10°C here in Edinburgh but with skies still remaining overcast.
