After having done better than expected with the sunshine and relative warmth last week, the anticyclonic gloom has arrived today. Still feels mild at 15 C in calm air, bests being wind blasted and soaked wet.
Home location: Folkestone Harbour.

In addition to that, we have still only had 16.6% of our 1991-2020 average October sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this month so far and there as more in the way of cloud as we came to the end of today.

However, the next couple of days are forecast to be sunnier and we now only need at least 4.9 hours of sunshine to be recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this year in order for this year to be sunnier than average so that target is probably likely to be achieved in the next day or so with more than two and a half month to spare, thus showing us just how much this has been the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

At the moment, we have once again returned to that same old "if only it were summer" pattern of weather which we have been in throughout most of the year (with only a few blips) with high pressure once again charge as it usually always is nowadays. With that though, the temperatures still keep on refusing to drop at night whilst the daytime maximum temperatures are still not all that cold at around 15°C or so.

As I write, it's currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 10.6°C and the lack of any significant diurnal temperature range just now is a bit pathetic when you consider that we're currently under high pressure at the very time of year when we would typically be starting to see some decent frosts from that. Instead of that though, there's no real diurnal temperature range just now which means that we have had to endure yet another pathetic double figures minimum.

There is quite a lot of medium level cloud around this morning, but also some sunshine at times. At the moment, I would probably say that there's a bit too much cloud around to give us the required sunshine total by the end of today which will confirm this year's status as a sunnier than average year right away, but we can never say that this won't actually be the case and I think that we will get some sort of sunshine total today which will go a long way towards that, and ensuring that the target for the year is met no later than the end of tomorrow.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh
