I can see that DEW is probably either busy or away somewhere so if the rest of you don't mind, I will take the opportunity to start this week's thread and then DEW (or another mod) can then close last week's thread in the usual manner.

Overnight rain has now cleared away with a total of 3.6 mm of rain being recorded from that at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

There is some cloud to my east but there is a lot more in the way of clear skies than there was yesterday, so we should have a better chance of seeing some sunshine.

Last night was colder than the previous night with an overnight minimum temperature of 5.7°C although it still wasn't cold enough for a ground frost on this occasion.

Currently around 6°C here in Edinburgh

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is confirmed as 16.2°C with a total of 9.5 hours of sunshine.

This means that more sunshine has now been recorded for there this month than the 1991-2020 average and so regardless of what happens in the last two days of this month, this month will go down as being sunnier than average. There was never any doubt that this would end up happening in the end even though the last few days had brought about a real struggle to get over that finishing line but this is once again showing us that this continues to be the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

Currently around 11°C here in Edinburgh

A cold start to today with a ground frost as the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped to 1.3°C.

However, this morning has once again got off to the usual bright and sunny start in this year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

Currently around 2°C here in Edinburgh

Today started off bright and sunny here and there was a nice sight of a shallow layer of mist for a while in the Firth of Forth.

However, it has gradually clouded over from the SW over the course of the day with light rain now setting in, although I don't recall that actually being forecast for today.

Currently around here 14°C here in Edinburgh with a total of only 3.1 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, so today is slightly cooler than yesterday and not as sunny.

Last night was milder once again with the return to double figures minimum temperatures as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank only dropped to an overnight minimum of 11.3°C.

This morning has then started off on a cloudy and mostly overcast note with only the odd break in that cloud.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh and not even feeling autumnal in any way!!

White rabbits!!

It's the start of another brand new month and we're now almost halfway through the autumn, yet it still seems as though very little has actually changed here since the peak of the summer season.

If anything, the temperatures are actually heading in the wrong direction once again. This should be a cooling time of year which means that it should be getting colder as we head towards the coming winter and yet after reaching a maximum of 17.5°C yesterday, last night's overnight minimum temperature was only down to a very muggy 13.8°C which actually makes last night our warmest night for quite some time!!

There was some overnight rain but that only amounted to a total of 2.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank which was nowhere near enough to even come close to ending our very long run of drier than average months, or to ease the long standing water scarcity situation which is still ongoing as a result.

Up until now, this has been the year in which the Sun just hasn't stopped shining and one thing which has changed this morning is that it's not actually doing so just now as this morning has started off on a dull and overcast note.

However, this morning has also started off on the usual dry note and I'm sure that the Sun will be back out before too long, even if that doesn't actually happen today.

Meanwhile, the temperature here in Edinburgh is already at around 15°C.

The rain got a bit heavier for a while this morning, but only amounted to a further 1.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and this rain has cleared away for now with the Sun even making an appearance as it always does in this year in which the Sun just won't stop shining.

In addition to that, it's also another warm day for this of the year with the temperature currently at around 17°C here in Edinburgh

After my hot sunny month in the Algarve, I see that my part of Edinburgh has had a mild, dry and sunny September. Pretty much the story of the year so far.

This morning it's mild, cloudy and dry with a minimum of 14 C and a light SSW wind

I'd be quite concerned if I lived in western Scotland

It's also true that last month's maximum temperatures were warmer than average but the overnight minimum temperatures were actually below average with a number of ground frosts and even that very early air frost which all meant that the temperatures in September were actually only around average overall.

However, you are right about mild, dry and sunny conditions being the story of this year and that is why I keep on referring to this year as the year in which the Sun just won't stop shining, and that is also the reason why water scarcity continues to be a major issue in many parts of Scotland, especially in NE Scotland.

Even with yesterday's rather wet and overcast conditions at times, a total of 1.1 hours of sunshine was still recorded for yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank and there has still only been one completely sunless day during this autumn so far at the very time of year when we would normally expect to start seeing more sunless days as the days continue to shorten.

The Sun isn't shining this morning though as today is starting off on a mostly dull and overcast note, but there are a few breaks in that cloud and the Sun will no doubt be out at some point in time as per usual.

The big story of the night though came from the fact that the temperatures just utterly refused to drop and this meant that the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was a ridiculously mild 14.0°C which is more or less bringing us back into those rather stuffy conditions which we experienced quite a lot of during the summer.

There was also some overnight rain which amounted to 2.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank although that has now cleared away.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

There was some overnight rain here which amounted to a total of 5.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and this was enough to make yesterday our wettest day of this month so far and our wettest day for quite a while.

That rain has now cleared away and although there is still some cloud around, there is plenty of clear sky around to my east which means that as the sun rises, it had already made an early appearance. Having said that though, only half an hour of sunshine was recorded for the whole of yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank and although there has still only been the one completely sunless day this autumn so far, recent days haven't actually been as sunny as we've been used to this year with more cloud already streaming in from the west as I speak.

Last night wasn't as mild as the previous night, but it was still another night in which the temperatures generally refused to drop and so last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was only down to 12.4°C.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh and thankfully, the temperatures haven't quite bottomed out yet so the actual minimum temperature could still be lower than what I have reported here, although that isn't likely to be the case by all that much.
