Quite the opposite here in normally soggy South Wales Saint - it's bone dry with a dessicating stiff easterly breeze.

Stepping outside already feels like being in a hair dryer.

For a time MBY was under reds. Pretty much zero wind so the rain was falling vertically and uniformly.

Clouds have been thinning since and we've had decreasingly hazy sun for the last hour.

The rain's just given everywhere a watering and freshening - and at a time that doesn't make a real difference.

Still very dull and cloudy and much cooler so now have to wait for next batch to deliver much hotter and sunnier weather this weekend as this one failed and once it failed no recovery can work.

Currently dirty blue skies and few horrible clouds around.  🥱

31 degrees here in Fulham with hazy unbroken sunshine don’t think it will get to 33/34 as projected

Now 27.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes today our hottest day of this month so far by quite a bit, and is only 1.7°C below our highest temperature of the year so far which was set back in June.

Frustratingly it's hit 29.9C several times today at the vineyard but hasn't yet tipped over (and it's East facing so tends to peak early).

38.8C on the PWS at our place in France. A whole other level.

Well, it's certainly what I'd call a heatwave here. 31.1C.

That is, cumulative degrees at or over 30 (where 30 = 1 HDD, 31 = 2). That gives us a measure of both frequency and intensity.

I calculate the 1995 HDD based on his 32 days as 99.2. That implies the "average" of those 30+ days was around 32C. You could get 99.2 HDDs with 99 days of 30C, 50 days of 31C, 33 days of 32C, 25 days of 33C, 20 days of 34C or 17 days of 35C.

Anyone know where we can get those daily maxes for other years?

Frustratingly I only made it to 24.5°C today so no three day heatwave threshold for me. It has however still been very pleasantly warm.
