Torrential shower just passed through - purples on the radar so 150mm/hr or so, albeit only a few minutes' worth but enough to flood the roads and even turn my parched lawn into a lake temporarily. Constant rumbles of thunder but I didn't see any lightning.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 18.9°C.

There has been a few sunny intervals this evening, but it still remains mostly cloudy with a temperature of around 17°C here in Edinburgh

White Rabbits!!

Hard to believe it but today marks the beginning of the final month of the meteorological summer already and as we enter into this brand new month, today has started off on an uninspiring dull and overcast note without even a single hint of any brightness.😡

Currently around 13°C here in Edinburgh

15.4C. Sunny spells and calm. The next stab at rain is Monday perhaps? Yesterday's shower barely wetted the surface.

Partly cloudy with a gentle NW'ly breeze.

15.6, dew 12.9. The overnight low was 15.4 (+2C wrt the 91-20 average) and yesterday's high was 21.9 (-1.5C).

In the end there was just 1.2mm of rain from yesterday, all of it from the unforecast rain in the morning and none of it from the forecast hours of rain in the afternoon. It wasn't enough to wash the slurry into the soil on the farmers' fields.

We ended up with about 40mm of rain here yesterday (estimated from buckets etc in the garden and local PWSs) after catching a direct hit from a very intense storm cell. Everything feels notably fresher already!

Yet another dry day here in Edinburgh but a very disappointing day overall.

It's been mostly dull and overcast throughout today with only a few patches of blue sky in the middle part of the day which were never at any time, in the right place to allow us to see anything of the Sun. I've said on many occasions recently that this has been a year in which the Sun has just not stopped shining but today was the complete opposite of that as it was a day in which the Sun has refused to shine.

Even some late unexpected sunshine before sunset is looking very unlikely as there are no breaks in that cloud whatsoever and without that late sunshine, today will go down as our completely sunless day at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 24 June 2025, not exactly a great start to the month for anyone who is hoping for this summer to finish with a sunnier than average month.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh was just 17.6°C and not even the least bit warm for this time of the year.😡

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh

Last night was quite a cool night here with single figures temperatures as the minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped to 9.0°C.

However, today has started off on a much better note and although there is still some cloud around, today has started off on a mostly bright and sunny note. As I write, a total of just 0.7 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank but even that is only our first recorded sunshine of this month.

Currently around 15°C here in Edinburgh but we are forecast to get our first 20+°C maximum of this month today, so it will be interesting to see whether or not that actually happens (my money is on that happening given what this summer has been like until now).

A beautiful, fresh, clear summers day with little cloud. It's 20 C at 1300 with a strong sun! Great for the mass crowds in Edinburgh!

A nice day once the cloud broke mid-morning, a top of 23.2c after a low of 10.6c. Currently 21.4c with a DP of 10.3c so feels very pleasant.

It is now 55 days since we had a max lower than 20c, 54 days since the last max below 70F if you prefer older money...

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 20.7°C which isn't quite as warm as it was forecast to be although it was still warm enough to give us our first 20+°C maximum of this month.

As I write, a total of 8.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far with a further 2.6 hours of available daylight as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 BST). This means that a maximum total of 11.0 hours of sunshine could end up being recorded for today in the end although the actual final total is likely to be slightly less than that, even with unbroken sunshine between now and sunset. If only we had that a couple of days ago, July would have gone down as being sunnier than average here so it's just sod's law that this is how that's all worked out. However, yesterday was a completely sunless day here which means that the above total is also the current total for this month so far.

Tonight is forecast to be warmer than last night which isn't going to be very good for trying to sleep and as I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh is still currently around 19°C.

The front passing over is surprisingly potent. Solid heavy summer rain for the past 30 mins and very very dark and 'soupy'.
