We avoided the rain completely and it's a bright and warm day. Mostly thin cloud with a few sunny spells. It's reached 21 C here so I'm happy with that!

We never got a heatwave in Edinburgh this year, they are very rare and time's slipping by now 🤔

In order to get out of that situation, we need to be getting quite a long period of sustained above average rainfall and if the rain keeps on avoiding here in this fashion, that is not going to happen. If anything, this will just result in that water scarcity status from SEPA being upgraded as the situation regarding water scarcity continues to deteriorate.

That needs to change and we therefore need some further rainfall in order for that to happen. I would say that our weather just now is just plain old boring with absolutely nothing interesting happening in terms of any actual weather (the fact that there is no actual heatwave just now with the temperatures only at or slightly above average just adds to that boredom).

A quiescent day today. Mostly calm, a good deal of cloud, and lower dewpoints of late meaning it's been great for getting things done (such as mowing the lawn).

It's 20.3, dew 13.7 and the high is 21.9... around 1.5C below the 91-20 average, so no complaints here.

In the end, today was warmer than yesterday with a maximum temperature of 22.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank where a total of 6.2 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today as I write.

Yesterday, I mentioned on here that this month was looking likely to end our current run of sunnier than average months but today was a bit sunnier than it was forecast to be and given that this has been a year in which the Sun has refused to stop shining, this raises the question of whether or not we might get away with yet another sunnier than average month after all.

For that to happen,  a total of at least another 15.5 hours of sunshine now need to be recorded between now and the end of this month. There are now only two days left of this month, so that equates to an average of 7.75 hours of sunshine per day which has gone up only slightly since yesterday.

As a result, a sunnier than average month this time is still unlikely but if the next two days also end up being sunnier than expected, that is something which could yet still be on the cards and given how sunny this year has been overall, I wouldn't actually be the least bit surprised if that ended up happening now.

A mostly cloudy start to today here in Edinburgh as our summer borefest goes on with hardly even any hints of any brightness for now. I still expect the Sun to come out later on and as a result, the Met Office are once again forecasting a maximum temperature of around 22°C for here but it is now looking as though this will probably just about be the final nail in the coffin in terms of our chances of this month continuing our long run of sunnier than average months.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 12.2°C

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

Another dull but very warm morning. Really dull month overall yet maxima still getting well above average on most days. Hovering between 19 and 20c currently.

Here in south Edinburgh we have just passed 21 C. The morning cloud melted away to give another decent warm sunny afternoon 🙂

26.1C. A pleasant sunny spells afternoon which feels comfortably warm.

Not current conditions, but there is a weather warning for tomorrow for thundery showers here. There have been so many warnings for me this summer that come to naught that it's like crying wolf.  One day of course the warning will come true... I'll of course take this one with a pinch of salt but still keep a look at the radar. A thunderstorm here will be a novelty.

Today was yet another warm day with a maximum temperature of 22.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

After a largely sunny afternoon though, there was more in the way of cloud in the evening although there was a bit more sunshine just before sunset.

As a result, a total of just 4.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that a total of at least 10.9 hours of sunshine need to be recorded tomorrow in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average, otherwise this month will go down as our first duller than average month since January 2025.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

The showery rain arrived and it's not a lot even though the radar is on red and yellow.

Got to say the BBC forecast has beaten the MO today from their apps. The showers started early and there's been a steady stream so far, some reasonably heavy.

6.4mm so far today and many more to come from the radar.

Unexpectedly hot and humid here with more sun than cloud. I looked at the local airport temperatures and most haven't got above 21 but Southampton (actually in Eastleigh, a few miles away) is 24. My thermometer is heading for 25!

As for rain, we had the smallest few spots at around 1030 and nothing else. Looking at the 850s and thicknesses and the FAX chart, there seems to be a short lived warm sector of CSE. Looking at the radar, there is rain N and S but we seem to have been in some sort of shadow, although barely 3 miles away north of Winchester it's raining.

We seem to be right in the firing line today. Heaviest rain i've experienced so far this summer, accumulating nicely.

The forecasts so far (from the Beeb, MetO and GFS) have been awful - we had rain when none was forecast, and the several hours of rainfall forecast for late morning/early afternoon has moved away to the SW instead.

There's still time for some pop-up showers this afternoon, but I won't get my hopes up. It did, however, mean a dry trip to the vet with my puppy, which isn't a bad thing. I was expecting downpours!

20.5, dew 18.4 (feels much more humid than recently), calm. Last night's low was 16.2 and yesterday's high ended as 24.2.

EDIT: There's a thin line of storms over the Thames, looks to be heading this way - time will tell whether they make it here.

SECOND EDIT: Nope, they missed - just a few heavy raindrops.

The farmers have been caught out too, as they spread their slurry over the fields yesterday. They would have been hoping for a downpour to work it into the soil...

Several nearby thunderclaps in last hour or so, and short but fairly intense rainbursts, accelerated by downdrafts, making it sound like hail on the conservatory roof.

Reached 25 earlier but has been around 21 during these showers- which feel oddly warm.

A rather disappointing day here in Edinburgh.

Today started off on a fairly cloudy note and even though there was some sunshine for a while this morning, the rest of the day has been dull and overcast with even some light drizzly rain showing up on the latest radar maps in the near vicinity although for now, it's still dry as per usual.

As I write, the rather abysmal total of just 1.3 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. As a result, there is now not enough available daylight left for us to be able to get the required amounts of sunshine which would result in this month being sunnier than average. Because of that, this month will now go down as being duller than average regardless of what happens between now and the end of today, and this means that the run of sunnier than average months which started back in February has now come to an end here.

In addition to that, today is also cooler than of late with the temperature rising no higher than around 18°C here in Edinburgh which is roughly where we are at just now as I write.
