Edit. Looking at the radar some showery stuff forming in last hour or so. Forecast now has showery rain in it with thunder possible.

That will be interesting. No weather warning atm.

And the temperature has fallen a degree or so since when I got up. 16.6C currently.

A line of developing showers passing over. Not a lot of rain but there are puddles. An unusual event in itself this summer for here.

Dry morning . Thunderstorm from 1130 for 45 mins torrential rain forked lighning and some loud cracks . 20mm locally but one or two nearby stations appear to have recorded double this so a thorough soaking with flooding rain in places in the eastbourne area . Just had a few more cracks of thunder another storm passing to the North . More appearing further west along the line of the Downs very often a convergence zone .

Quite the opposite up here. A fine, calm and mostly cloudy day but the sun punched through and it's a beautiful late afternoon with the highest temperature now at 22 C

Tomorrow might be one of those rarest of things, a colder-than-average day. We'll see!

A rather disappointing day here in Hawick.

It’s been overcast with only the odd brief sunny interval this morning.

In addition to that, we’ve also had some light rain and drizzle at times although this has only barely shown up at all on any of the radar maps. For now though, it’s dry but overcast.

Even with that though, the temperature still got to around 20°C here.

The cloud has now broken up to leave us with a good deal of evening sunshine here in Hawick. A bit of a cheek though given the earlier conditions.

Currently around 17°C here in Hawick

It's (dare I say it?) quite chilly feeling this morning with a thinning fog. 8.7c currently.

More of an aside, but yesterday evening after the clouds cleared, the sky became very dusty/hazy looking, like what you see when you have an airmass coming in from Europe. It was more pronounced than the smokey haze from those Canadian wildfires earlier in the summer. Very odd given the broadly NW maritime airflow.

Dull, having gradually clouded up during the day. There was some surprisingly heavy rain mid-afternoon (peaking at a 19.4mm/hourly rate) - it led to 7.6mm of rain in total. It's currently 18.1, dew 17.1 (94% RH).

And amazingly it has indeed been a cooler-than-average day. Not by much - the high was 21.8 - but I'll take it with open arms. Should be an excellent night's sleep to come tonight. 💤

After what has been a particularly damp night with persistent drizzle, it is now starting to brighten up with the sun breaking through. 20 C dead on, high-80% H and winds are very light. Going to feel quite humid and muggy today.

Back to the usual dross here - sunny, warm, humid, no wind to speak of (just the odd puff from the north).

24.7, dew 19.1, following a high of 25.7.

(At least it's nearly August, not long to go now until the sun becomes noticeably weaker - about 3 weeks).
