The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Data For Recent Days

24 hour total up to 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning: 3.4 mm

Total since 10 am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning: 0.0 mm (as at 2:40 pm BST (13:40 UTC) this afternoon on Monday 23 June 2025)

Monthly Data

Total for this month so far: 75.6 mm (109.9% of 1991-2020 June average)

Number of rain days during this month: 9 (80.8% of 1991-2020 June average)

Number of dry days during this month: 13

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month than the 1991-2020 June average and so regardless of what happens during the rest of this month, this month will now go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, only at least another 3 official rain days need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of rain days.

Seasonal Data

Total for this summer so far: 75.6 mm (35.1% of 1991-2020 summer average)

Number of rain days during this summer: 9 (26.7% of 1991-2020 summer average)

Number of dry days during this summer: 13

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 262.8 mm (33.5% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of rain days during this year: 44 (32.0% of 1991-2020 annual average)

Number of dry days during this year: 104

Note

This data has been obtained from https://www.ogimet.com  in raw BUFR format, and then converted into a more readable form by my own python script.

Zero rain for ten days now and that was just 2mm during a brief evening storm. Looks like tonight's promised storms will miss us to the East again running up the North Sea. Bears no resemblance  to what used to happen - you'd think there would be more with all this extra energy but there are way fewer thunderstorms here and when they are they are weaker and short lived.

SEPA have just released this water scarcity report which remains very similar to last week's report.

In this week's report, there is one area which has had it status downgraded from alert status to early warning status but for everywhere else, the status for each area remains unchanged from last week.

This means that although Edinburgh Gogarbank is about to record its first wetter than average month of this year, Edinburgh still remains at alert status as regards to water scarcity along with many other parts of the east of scotland.

East Lothian is still at moderate water scarcity status along with NE Fife and many other eastern parts of Scotland.

Some central parts and northern parts of Scotland are still at early warning status along with the far SW of Scotland whilst everywhere else which I haven't mentioned so far is at normal status.

Although there has been some rain in the last week, this continues to be mainly focused in the north and west of Scotland where there has further recovery because of that but in order for the situation to improve in the east as well, there needs to be above average rainfall there for a period of time at least and so the situation in those areas is unlikely to change for the better until that actually happens.

Some unexpected rain overnight leading to 1.8mm. Not much in the middle of a drought I know but it did half fill the water butts which was welcome, at least. 19.8mm for month and 198mm ytd.
