Looking at the radar, one would think that the sky was pouring all it has down, but the reality is that there a few random drops falling from  rather raggidy looks altostratus. Not even enough to tip the bucket.

A humid 16.3C. A moderate ESE breeze with light steady rain and heavier stuff over France moving north which might or might not affect here. Probably will though. And thundery too.

Today has been a day of hazy sunshine here in Edinburgh with some high cloud at times but there are also some very interesting goings-on as regards to the temperatures.

For the last few hours, Edinburgh Gogarbank has stopped transmitting any raw data (possibly due to maintenance or due to a faulty instrument) and the last recorded temperature there was 18.3°C as at 09:00 UTC and 10:00 UTC with that being the highest recorded temperature of the day.

However, the temperature at Edinburgh Airport has reached around 21°C as I write, and the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh briefly rose to 20.61°C a short while ago before dropping back to 17.66°C thanks to that North Sea effect once again.

From that, it would appear that Edinburgh has had its warmest day of this summer so far despite that ongoing North Sea effect but with no data currently coming from Edinburgh Gogarbank (which is our main Met Office station in this area), that's not really going to go down in the actual records which is very frustrating indeed.😡

After a warm but grey overcast morning we had a brief heavy downpour here followed by a sudden change to clear blue sky and warm sunshine. An impressive bank of stormy looking cloud is now clearing away to the north west. I can't recall ever seeing such a distinct change from gloomy weather to clear skies in such calm conditions

The wind from off the North Sea has clearly picked up a bit in strength as confirmed by the twice hourly METAR reports from Edinburgh Airport (still no data from Edinburgh Gogarbank).

This has also caused the temperature at Edinburgh Airport to drop back to around 18°C although the temperature at Swanston in the south of Edinburgh is still holding up at around 20°C for now.

EDIT:

The temperature at Edinburgh Airport is now just 17°C, which is drop in temperature of around 3°C in the space of just an hour.

It's still breezy but the temperatures have gone back up to around 21°C here in Edinburgh and even Edinburgh Gogarbank has now come back online with a current temperature of 21.3°C.

As a result, the first 20+°C maximum of this summer has now been recorded after all, at all three of my local stations here in Edinburgh.

Haven't posted in here for a while, but this afternoon's transition from normal to hot was quite sudden!

It'd been an unremarkable summer's day (i.e. sunny and a bit warmer than average, temperatures varying between 20 and 22), but with a gentle breeze from the east making it feel rather pleasant. Then it clouded over, the temperature fell to 19C and I thought to myself "that forecast for 25C in an hour's time seems a bit wide of the mark!".

The skies then cleared, the sun came back out, and not long afterwards there was much creaking from upstairs (which is timber-framed). Turns out the temperature had risen from 22 to 27 in the space of 30 minutes, and the rise was quick enough that it presumably made the wood expand more quickly than it normally would! It then turned into a typical modern summer's day, i.e. sunny, very humid and hot.

Currently it's 27, dew 18.9, and it's going to be a stifling night to come. Roll on Saturday, is all I can say!

Just hit 23C here (dew 17.9). It's not even 9AM, yet it's already warmer here than in any time in 1963. Fun fact of the day! 😁

A mostly cloudy day here in Edinburgh with only occasional sunny intervals but it is also rather warm and muggy with the temperature already at around 21°C generally and even up to around 22°C at Edinburgh Airport.

The wind has now picked up a bit here in Edinburgh but unlike on Wednesday, this wind isn't coming in from off the North Sea and there has been many occasions in the past when these conditions have led to us getting what has ended up being our hottest day of that particular year.

This has resulted in the Sun coming through a lot more and with that, I was hoping that today might end up going down as our warmest day of this summer so far, if not of this year as a whole (I would much rather be seeing our hottest day of the year in the actual summer after all, than in April as is the case just now).

For some reason or another though, the temperatures have refused to rise any further and remain stuck at around 21°C. Given that yesterday's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank reached 22.1°C, this means that as things stand just now, today isn't even on course to be our warmest day of the summer so far, let alone our warmest day of the year. so far at the moment.

Cooling down a bit now we've lost the sun and gained an easterly, but it's still very humid, as it has been all afternoon.

Overcast, 21.1, dew 16.9. The high today was 25.5 this morning, and most of the afternoon has been between 23 and 24, with dewpoints peaking at 19.3 earlier.

It’s been a lovely day here and is currently 20.4°C and sunny. A nice summer’s day.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is officially confirmed as 22.0°C. That is very slightly below yesterday's maximum and is therefore, not quite warm enough for today to go down as our warmest day of this summer so far.

However, the wind from earlier on has died down again after gusting up to around 35mph from the SSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The skies are also much clearer with a little bit of late evening hazy sunshine although there is still a lot of high cloud around.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh
