11.1C. Sunny albeit hazy and calm. Yesterday evening the late sun was notably muted by the haze.

Fair with hazy sun and partial cloud, the upper level smoke from Canadian forest fires is still evident. 17.7 C & low 60% H but feels warmer since winds are lighter and not of the onshore type.
Home location: Folkestone Harbour.

Not quite current conditions but a shot from the strand yesterday evening. Ringstead Bay.

The hazy sun filtered by Canadian forest fire smoke. I think...

A dull, overcast and increasingly damp day here in Edinburgh with the temperatures refusing to rise, and now at a really abysmal (for this time of the year) 13°C as this so-called "summer" continues to go completely down the toilet pan (for now at least) in this part of the world.😡

A much better day than yesterday here in Edinburgh.

There's still a lot of cloud around but there are also plenty of sunny intervals as well.

Today is also warmer than yesterday, though still not massively warm for this time of year with a temperature of around 17°C here in Edinburgh. If the latest forecasts are correct though, everything should be much more seasonal for this time of the year by tomorrow with some forecasts suggesting that we might even get our first 20+°C maximum of the summer tomorrow in these parts, which would be gratefully welcomed here given the very disappointing start to our summer so far although only time will tell with that one of course.

Ozone Aurora wrote in last weeks current conditions thread (#27)

I thought it might be due to wildfires from Canada, the US Rockies US (or even from the Amazon?).

A bright and sunny start to this morning with a temperature of around 14°C here in Edinburgh and the big question for today is whether or not, we will get our first 20+°C maximum of this summer today here in Edinburgh (we have already had a number of 20+°C maximums this year but these have all occurred in April and May, and not in this actual summer itself) given that yesterday was our warmest day of what has been a rather disappointing start to this summer so far with a maximum temperature of 19.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As I write, the temperature needs to rise by quite a bit in order to reach that magic 20°C mark but with the very strong sunshine at this time of the year, that could well end up happening especially if we don't get any cooling breeze setting in from off the North Sea which could potentially scupper that.

The forecasts are very much touch and go with that though after being almost certain yesterday that we would get our first 20+°C maximum of this summer today. The Met Office are going for a maximum of around 20°C for here whereas the BBC are going for a maximum of only 19°C which would actually make today not any warmer than yesterday, thus going against other recent forecasts which have all said that today would be warmer. Both forecasts suggest that a cool breeze would set in from off the North Sea but both of these forecasts have suggested that this would already be happening as I write, but that is not the case and there are no signs of any breeze from off the North Sea just yet.

That big lump of cloud over the south east of England has proven very stubborn this morning. Looks like it is finally breaking up and drifting north now. Still cloudy here but at least it is brighter. 18.6C .

After a beautiful almost calm sunny start it clouded over with a brisk ESE wind. A little calmer now and the sun is out again at about 21C.

I said earlier on that it might be touch and go as to whether or not Edinburgh gets its first 20+°C maximum of the summer today, and it's now looking like that.

As I write, today's highest temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is 19.7°C which already makes today our warmest day of this summer so far but as forecast, a cooler breeze has started to come in from off the North Sea. Nevertheless, the temperatures have not yet peaked for today as I write and I reckon that by the time that the raw SYNOP/BUFR data comes through which includes today's actual maximum temperature, we will have done enough (if not more than that) to get that first 20+°C maximum of the summer in the bag for this year.

What I will say though. is that the sunshine has now become a bit hazier as a result of it becoming more humid.

First warm day this month with 21.8C currently.

Sometimes cloud comes across and it feels like thundery showers might spring up, there's warm gusty winds too.

But nothing likely until later tomorrow in that department.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has been officially confirmed as 19.7°C which is no higher than the highest hourly temperature which I reported on here earlier on today, and this means that our wait for our first 20+°C maximum of this summer at Edinburgh Gogarbank now goes on for another day at least.

As is all too often the case at this time of the year, a developing and cooling breeze from off the North Sea has once again been the culprit for that. As I write though, a total of 12.1 hours of sunshine had been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank for today so far as at 6:40 pm BST (17:40 UTC) with the Sun still continuing to shine as I write.

However, that sunshine is becoming a bit hazier now with a more humid feel to things as the temperature is still around 19°C here in Edinburgh. However, Jerry in the south of Edinburgh will no doubt be pleased to hear that the temperature at his local weather station at Swanston is currently at 21.1°C as a result of it being that bit warmer away from the coast in these conditions, so I can at least unofficially say that Edinburgh has had its first 20+°C maximum of the summer today. Just to show much much cooler it can be closer to the east coast with that breeze from off the North Sea though, I can also report that the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has currently been pegged back at just 16.0°C.
