Short heavy downpour here with thunder rumbling all around. Quite a novelty and nice to see. Won't be saying that if the unsettled weather sets in for the long haul and it's still raining in a month's time

Still only 1.2mm of rain here all month - today was very disappointing, with showers popping up everywhere but here... even the other end of Sheppey had some.

Yes.

So the next stab at bringing proper rain is when?

Saturday was a few days ago due to herald a significant change with proper rain but this has now gone for here at least.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2651101

Saturday will be overcast with the odd spot of rain pushing in from the west, particularly in the afternoon and evening as it turns breezier.

The plus side for me will be the increased winds from the West or SW which will with luck break up the filthy stinky May Bloom along the coast. The recent high sunshine levels have made this year a bad year for it.

Rain? Met O more optimistic. But the chances of this drought being reversed (before isolation reduces at least) look slim.

13mm this month here. Our last three months go 5mm, 140 mm 13mm.

Finally made it to 200mm for the year, 202mm after today's showers

4mm today brings us up to 12.6mm for the month after 15.4mm in April and 9mm for March

A lot of folklore and science involved with it. My (good) neighbours have a tree in their garden. It's looked sorry for itself in the past few years but this year has a new lease of life. It's flourishing - I think they fed it last winter.

I've planted many over the years.

Just back from the tip. One of the staff said he's praying for rain. He lives in Poole which missed yesterdays downpour(s).

But here everything looks fresh and verdant with the spring dust washed away off leaves.

Does this mean a few spots from a shower or a few spots might get a shower? Pedantic me of course.

The latest model output finally has a bit of rain for here in the next few days and regardless of whether that actually comes off or not, even that is something which we've not been able to say for quite a long time now.

In the meantime though, we continue to have no rain whatsoever, and that is reflected very much in this week's water scarcity report which was released today by SEPA.

Having said that, not an awful lot has changed in that report since this time last week but a number of areas which were on alert status last week as regards to water scarcity, have now been raised to moderate scarcity status. Those areas include any parts of the south of and east of Scotland and I can also inform MRayner that Speyside is one such location, which is very famous for its Scotch whisky production.

For now, the Western Isles are somehow managing to cling onto an early warning status for that but everywhere else is still on the same alert or moderate scarcity scarcity status which they were on last week.

The seriousness of this situation cannot be ignored with river,ย  loch and ground water levels remaining extremely low, and with many rivers now drying up completely in this part of the world.

As I mentioned above, there is now some rain in the latest model output but we are going to need a heck of a lot more rain than what the models are currently offering if we are going to see anything even resembling a proper recovery from this situation.

0.2mm from a random shower clipping the north Kent coast! It even turned the ground wet for a bit - lovely. ๐Ÿ˜Š

That brings the monthly total to a whopping 1.4mm now.

The river spey is now only 7 cm of its lowest recorded.ย

The forecast rain May halt its dropย

I have been trying to find when that โ€œlowest recorded โ€œ was, but with no luck, was thinking that it most likely occurred end of summer, (ie no snow melt etc)so this happening in spring is certainly a notable event. Off course when itโ€™s been raining for the next three months , all will be forgotten !! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ’ฆ

However, that is only for this time of the year which doesn't quite answer your question as that relates to the year as a whole which I also haven't been able to find any answers for.

A useful and much needed 8.8 mm so far today. The rain has stopped but looking set to be dull and damp for the rest of today before further rain move in from the west late tonight. Think it's going to be a quiet Bank Holiday weekend here at Folkestone harbour. ๐Ÿ˜

Maybe. But again I wouldn't put money on the event taking place. But we seem to be in a more mobile situation weatherwise.
