The earthquake swarm continues around the area of Santorini with some recent quakes of 4.4m at a depth of between 10-4km.

It looks very similar to events in Iceland when a magma intrusion happened in Grindavik albeit not as powerful or as shallow.

A massive 8.7 earthquake under the Pacific recently. All of Hawaii, Japan and the West Coast of the US have been issued with a tsunami warning.

It's the strongest earthquake since the Japan earthquake in 2011.

That really is a very large quake and I had noticed there had been a lot of activity around Kamchatka in the recent weeks.

So far thankfully the tsunami waves that have impacted various locations have been relatively small with the largest I’m aware of being around 4 feet (in parts of Hawaii), although it’s possible that areas on parts of the California coast may experience something a little larger (perhaps 5 feet).

Edit: A 5.7 feet wave has been observed in Maui. The power behind a quake like this is mind blowing - it shows up very clearly on the BGS seismographs.

Two massive earthquakes in that same area in as many weeks. Odd and concerning.

According to a geologist over here (Eamon Doyle) that quake was so massive it was picked up on a seismometer located the west coast here. Impressive and downright scary.

A 3.3-magnitude earthquake rattled homes in north-west England on Wednesday night, the British Geological Survey (BGS) reported.

The tremor, which struck shortly after 23:23, was felt across Lancashire and the southern Lake District, including the towns of Kendal and Ulverston, within 12 miles of the epicentre. The quake occurred just off the coast of Silverdale, Lancashire at a depth of 1.86 miles, data suggested. There were no immediate reports of damage.

I mean, if there is any country where it's "best" for a large earthquake to strike, then it's Japan. The integrity of their infrastructure, and the way their buildings are designed to simply sway during these things is astounding and a remarkable feat of engineering.

A magnitude 8 in Europe or the American Northeast (if such quakes are even possible) would absolutely annihilate the place.
