That was a pretty active cold front / squall line! You could see it coming, it was the sort of thing where the hills a couple of miles away disappear in mist, then - whoosh - several strong gusts, a good deal of creaking, groaning and whistling, and a brief burst of heavy rain.

The temperatures going down managed to beat the 0.1C every 21 seconds of yesterday's rise!

9:44 10.9

9:49 9.5

9:50 7.7

9:55 6.6

That works out as 0.1C every 3 and a half seconds! In reality I suspect it was pretty much instant, but the station only logs every minute.

There was a dramatic drop in temperature from 10.5c at 7.15am to 2c at 9.15am. At one point, it was dropping 7.5c / hour.

Now sleet and snow mix, impressive 48 hours with a weather roller coaster.

It really is a remarkable cold front . It was 12c here an hour ago now 6c.

Unfortunately, it coincided with a power cut here (coincidence?) and so I had to get the figures from a nearby station.

Those gusts during the cold front did some damage! They blew out my (deliberately ugly) fix of my neighbour's fence, and blew out another of his panels. Last time, a couple of years ago, he did nothing for several months, until I "donated" an old panel I had lying around )it's the full size panel on the left of the askew one).

Infuriating. "Good fences make good neighbours", as they say!

Now 4.8 C (from the mentioned 11.8 C at 6 am in my last post). A drop of 7 C in 6 hours isn't that unusual, except that's usually during nightfall. Still rather dull and damp, just feeling more bleak for it, but at least winds have eased off.

Not sure I entirely trust the rain gauge on my WS but over 40mm of rain from this LP now, the bulk of which fell yesterday with 3mm so far today. I did have a little look at surrounding stations yesterday and they ranged from around 5mm more than me to 5-10mm less.

Temps remain at a very mild 9.6c with a gusty wind - so far this mild interlude has lifted the average from very cold to normal although would expect that to be reversed over the next few days.

Edit - quite a fun little change in temps just happened, now down to 4.6c in a matter of minutes.

Not too bad here today, suns out, feeling cold in the breeze. Temp 4.6c and dp 3c. I fueled up the car an hour ago and a gritter pulled up at the next pump, I asked him if he was gritting and he said yes, the area may get some snow this afternoon/evening.

Skies cleared about an hour or so ago.   Stunning sunshine against the snow.

There is still a keen wind though.

Temp has fallen from a high of 2.0c to 1.3c, ground temp must be close to freezing now,  thaw is slowing.

Rain gauge is going up all the time  55mm from the event in total and lots of unmelted snow still to capture.  Imagine if it had been snow.

You can see the nice manky panel I'd propped up to block the gap on the right, as well as the neighbour's original panel (which, oddly, they've just left for the past few weeks rather than binning).

The wind has calmed a fair bit, so hopefully the bodge will hold for a while (I suspect I'll end up having to pay for new panels myself, though; since the fence was first damaged 2 years ago the neighbour has bought a trampoline, 2 dachshund puppies, an outdoor barbecue....)

It's now 4.7, dew 2.6, so I'm not expecting a frost tonight. Tomorrow onwards, though, should be a different story!

-0.3c and mostly cloudy.

Extremely icy outside , worse where people have cleared drives as water has seeped under the snow and frozen.
