Drove from Shropshire back to Tonbridge this evening, which was ... interesting. I wasn't expecting the most difficult driving conditions to be on the last stretch of the journey down the A21 from the M25, but on the Sevenoaks bypass there was about 2cm on the road, so the traffic was doing 30mph at best. Elsewhere on the journey the sleet started just north of Banbury at about 8:15pm, and changed to snow over the Chilterns between Stokenchurch and High Wycombe - elevation making a big difference. Sleet round the M25 and then snow over the N Downs near Redhill. I had expected the snow to turn back to sleet at the bottom of the hill, but it didn't, and heavy wet snow continued all the way along the M25 to Sevenoaks and along the A21, until I arrived back at about 10.30pm.

I've just been out to move the car, and what seems to be coming out of the sky is a mixture of moderate rain and half-melted ice pellets.

Still just about snowing here, always been wet stuff but there is about a 1cm dusting on cars and a dusting on the pavement. I'm surprised how long the cold is hanging on and it is at its lowest now at 0.9Cand the low DP is helping.

Also if you look at the radar now you can clearly see the ever faithful M4 corridor or more accurately the course of the Thames from the Estuary westwards to its source. Also noting how marginal it is it is rain over my relatively narrow stretch of the estuary and snow just to the North and Southend is 2C warmer than here just 25 miles East and on  the coast.

Google working overtime. Night sight works incredibly well when there's snow around.

Still steady rain here and gradually melting the snow away, a shame such a beautiful sight as snow gets washed away so quick.

Just rain here in Swaffham, Norfolk. Stayed up  late to see snow, but no cigar. It might turn to snow for a time between 2.00am and 3.00am, but the days of doing an all-nighter to watch a transitory snow event of wet snow are past me.   I have missed the last two potential snow events thus, but no proper snow here for a few years. Norfolk used to be blessed with a lot of snow, (just watched the 1982 programme tonight - and its a reminder of what proper snow looks like).  Maybe we will see a flake or two as the cold air digs back in behind the cold front.

Hard to believe how we managed to cope with the regular power cuts in those days. I remember my parents used to use the kitchen gas hob as a heat source as well as for cooking.  We still had phone lines as well which could work without electricity (no longer possible with BT switching to Digital Voice via the router)

How could we cope now in a powercut? Very badly I think.

Just shows that even that 0.1c increase in temperature can cause heavy snow to become rain with ice pellets as you observed above. BTW how do you measure the DP's?

Make the best of the snow - it's a balmy 11c in Okehampton crazy to think 6 hours ago we were barely above freezing and just 60 miles north it's still 0c with heavy snow (i.e Wales).

A poor covering in Nantwich, can't see us even getting a few CM at this rate which is a shame with a system with so much potential and that is delivering in a quite a few places.

Quite a good covering forming here. It's probably up to about 6-7cm now with intermittent heavier bursts of snow. I've seen about the Internet that Lancashire seems to have done quite well from this.

My plan to record any snowfall paid dividends - the drizzle turned sleety late yesterday evening, then after midnight to proper snow (at which point the temperature fell to 0.6, dew -0.2). That led to a very brief dusting, a heavier dusting than last January's 5-minute "blink and you'll miss the odd bit of snow on the lawn" event... meaning the heaviest snow since 2021. It was meagre, very meagre, compared to the good old days, but I'll take any snow now - even if, like today, it's gone by the time I get up!

Sadly Google's Nest cameras aren't as good as the one on their phones, but leaving the bathroom light on meant there was just enough light to see the snow.

Very light snow started around 9.30 last night and we have a nice covering of a couple of cm this morning.  It’s still snowing and there are some nice big flakes now but the radar is showing it’ll soon turn to rain.  I’m really hoping it hasn’t all washed away before my granddaughter gets up, because at three and a half, she’s already as much a fan of snow as granny is.
