Rain turned increasingly icy heading back north from the Saints game this evening and eventually to snow in Kings Worthy about 7:00. Heavier snow for a while left a good couple of centimetres cover and the temperature fell back to freezing. Icy rain has now returned and it won't be long before everything returns to default winter grey 😔. Enjoyed it with my eldest while we could!

Appropriately enough, rain turned to snow here in Cranleigh not long after I started watching the Channel 5 documentary "The Big Snow of '82", which began at 19:40. We have a complete covering, even on the (little used) road outside my house, as far as I can see in the not that great street lighting. Still snowing. (The documentary, as weather documentaries tend to do, played a bit fast and lose with some of the data, but had some great footage.)

Ice pellets have turned to heavy rain here.

Shows over for my location I think!

A covering on all surfaces here, 1cm on roads etc., 2cm on grass.  Looking at the Wunderground radar I suspect we'll have 30-60 mins more of snow before the rain sets in.

About as depressing as expected although it's nice to see some snow and at least I know it'll rain, rather than hoping it won't!

About 2-3 CM here.  Still snowing but temperature gradually rising and  slow thaw of lying snow.

Be surprised if what we have lasts to tomorrow morning.

Now got about 3cm of lying snow, temp has dropped and stayed steady at 0C. Snow still falling, awaiting the temp rise and freezing rain etc. Have had just over 3 hours of snow now.

Just a few small sleety flakes falling so far, on the border of Essex and South Cambs.  I’m still hoping our elevation improves our chances tonight but time will tell.

A few small flakes for the last hour or so here. Nothing has stuck, but the heavier stuff is knocking on the door now. I'll see if that changes anything.

T: 0.5°C, DP: -0.2°C.

Been light wet snow and sleet here for over an hour. Some slush on the car windscreen but that's about it. Notably  the temperature has fallen from 3.5C to 1.2C during that period and the DP to -3.1C. So it is likely  to now become the coldest day of the winter so far. Well forecasted in the short to medium term I feel.

The rain has just turned sleety at this end as temps fell from 5 C this afternoon to 1.9 C & mid-90% H. Sadly it's only going to be fleeting.

But looking at the models, it does look like there may be a next chance saloon for snow even here at my end of Kent on Wednesday as a shallow low pressure system slide over France with -7 C 850s over us. We shall see.

The Croydon snow shield has finally been breached! Wet snow for a couple of hours which never looked like settling, but thicker flakes now, falling steadily and the previously wet surfaces have got a slight covering on them. It'll all be rain by the morning anyway, but at least it snowed!
