The sun's now made an appearance, and even at this time of year, when it's as weak as it gets, there's still a faint bit of warmth in it - if you can get out of the wind.

Temperatures have responded accordingly, now up to 14.3... it reminds me a bit of 2015, although that had 8 warmer days!

After a dull, windy and damp start with low cloud and drizzle (0.4 mm so far), the sun came out an hour ago and the current 12.7 C & low 90% H are actually feeling positively spring-like as winds has fallen light. Shame it's going to turn crap yet again later tonight.

We had a wild start to the day with gusts well over 40mph this morning (it was going some late last night too as you could hear it blowing over the top of the chimney, which sounds a lot like someone blowing over a bottetop!), very gloomy and overcast, which then brightened by lunchtime, thankfully no rain yet and has now calmed down a lot on the wind front, it's fully overcast again now and is getting quite dull so the lights are on. It's 13.7c  and 64% RH

Currently p***ing down, I'm at 7 mm so far but climbing quite quickly with another hour of this to come. It is actually the first significant rain in two weeks but thankfully winds being aren't as strong as I thought.

5.1C, after a clear and calm night,; temp quite surprising for such conditions in mid-December. Where have all the frosts gone?

After a noisy night (peak gust nearby: 48mph, so a win for MetO this time), it's now mostly cloudy and breezy from the WNW. 6.5, dew 4.4, after a low of 4.4. Yesterday's high was a remarkable 14.7, and there was 2mm of rain overnight.

Plenty of rain overnight but it had stopped by the time I got up at 4:30, it's now partly cloudy with some sun and fairly breezy 5.1c.

This morning has started off with some frost around but the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped only to 1.9°C with not even as much as a ground frost being recorded there.

There is a lot of cloud around as well but plenty of breaks in that cloud with some early sunshine.

Currently around 2°C here in Edinburgh.

Bright moonlight with a litle haze around the moon, presumably implying enough high cloud to prevent a ground frost (which there isn't) despite no wind and a temp 1.3C

Clear sky, minus 2 and a light frost here. Thin layer of ice on the bird bath and where rain has collected in other containers. A nice change from recent dull mornings

Happy Winter Solstice everyone.

This of course means that the very slow and gradual ascent towards next summer starts here and of course, this also means that it's winter regardless of how you actually define that.

Sadly though, the weather is not exactly in a winter mode just now as our frost free horror show goes on.😡

This morning has started off on a very windy note with the highest wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank reaching around 49 mph from the SW.

There was a little bit of rain in the early hours of this morning but that has now cleared away and the skies are generally clear just now with only a little bit of cloud around.

Currently a very mild 10°C here in Edinburgh.

Thanks Roger for that link. Much the same there as here apart from the crowds.

A stormy weekend to come here with gusts 50-60 mph expected throughout. After a noisy night, gusts are already 50 mph with fast moving light showers and our current 9 C is expected to drop throughout the day
